Opinions please-if you had two Jeff Cooper commemorative's what would you do?

Put em away, handle with cotton gloves only, etc. By the time your kids are ready for university, the consecutive serial number pair will probably pay for a couple years worth of school!

Since they are NIB, unfired & consecutive serial numbered that's how I'd keep 'em.

Generally, though for me the only 1911's I wouldn't shoot would be original Colt governments or 1911's or 1911A1's that were 'pristine' enough to maintain serious collector value.

As much as I love 1911's I can't see myself collecting or even wanting 'commemoratives' of any kind. A nice autographed Cooper book, however, that would be different.

I'm not sure but the book that came with it MIGHT be from a sighned lot of Jeff Cooper books but thats something i would have to researsch to confirm or deny, besides i don't want to unwrap the plastic on the book, i'll just buy the reprint or maybe look for 2 sighned copies,i think these pistols will have no problem staying "Pristine".Kind of thinking of ordering a cool velvet case of some sort for the pair and books.
 
My understanding was he was into plain jain fighting pistols not so much glitzy commemorative's,with that been said the pistol is not very "Glitzy".The modern upswept style beavertail he listed as "questionable",but not "objectional"to along with "questionable" for the new style ramp sight and ambi thumb safety being questionable unless being a "Lefty".Definately get a sense of understated elegance with this pistol and i'm o.k. with the new school gripsafety and sight as again he does not list them as" objectional"

I'll bet the comemoratives don't have full length guide rods - they made the 'objectionable' list along with the collet bushing :D
 
.45, I feel for you, over the years I have had some colts like that,
100% in 1911's and ssa and a factory engraved python,
I had to sell all of them as it drove me nuts to look and not
play with them.

P.S. I like the idea of the case, I made a couple for the SSA's and it
made a big difference when I sold them- looks and price wise

Not only would Jeff Cooper want you to shoot those guns, he would want you to save your life with them, because life saving was his real legacy. If they are modified to his specifications, those guns will be very shootable.

I know what I would do...... I'd keep one minty and shoot the other...... But I would be "wrong".......

I am currently making the "right" decision with a comemorative 38-55..... It goes really well with my Great Grandfathers 38-55 purchased back in 1908...... It kills me sometimes, just looking at it makes me want to shoot it! The only reason I have never shot the "fancy" 38-55 is because I have GG's sitting there all scared up and I also have a 30-30, so between the 2 I get lever action my fix!

I think you should do the display case, along with the book you talked about. One big display with both pistols in it. That would be really nice, and probably increase the value as well.

What redhouse said makes alot of sense....... In 15 yrs it will probably pay for a couple of years college/university for the kids.

If you shoot them...... Range report & Pics so we can revel in the awsomeness of your pistols!..... Or revile the destruction of a collectors piece!

If you do decide to shoot them.... Pick one to shoot and keep the other cherry...... That way you are kinda keeping one for posterity......

Thank's everyone for your opinions and feedback,i think i'm leaning towards some how getting heirloom precision to make a case or something or recomend me to someone they know who makes a case.Those 38-55's would definately be sweet.Too bad Colt stopped production of those python's ,a mighty fine revolver indeed!Would definately liketo see pics if you have them ,i'm sure it would be beautiful, especially with engraving.I here ya man shooting those collectable single actions sure can be a dilema,or rifles for that matter.
 
Shoot them both. Shoot them often. Show them off at the range. They were meant to be used. At least post some pics so we can see them.
 
Keep one pristine and use one, I bet you won't regret it. The pistol is what it is and if fired and looked after it will still be of great value in the future. It is truly uniqe and firing shouldn't devalue it that much should it. They sure are a gorgeous set of twins.

It has been my experience that commemorative's do not appreciate in value over time. I'm not sure of the value but why not sell one and keep the other to shoot. 50 years from now who is going to remember Jeff Cooper???
