Okay after the ill informed actions of the RCMP concerning Ruger 10/22 magazines, my son and I want another .22 that does not have the questionable magazine debate attached to it.

Guess his 10/22 and those wonderful 10 round magazines are mine now, as he does not like carrying a bunch of 10 rounders when plinking. :(

I posted earlier about the GSG STG 44, and all were favorable, then we see the GSG 15!

Really torn here, his old 10/22 wears a AR stock kit, as we shoot an AR too, and damn the GSG15 seems to have the same layout, add in the picatinny rail system and folding stock I just torn.

With all this in consideration I am leaning towards the GSG 15, anyone who has fired a GSG 15 and even better a STG 44 along side what do you jhave to say?

Concerned about longterm reliability, but I see the warranty is pretty good on both.

Thanks in advance.

It seems that the GSG 15 is a very nice shooter.
Personally, I love my StG 44 because it's full metal and very accurate and I'm not keen on a tacticool polymeric 22LR rifle .

STG-44 because of the metal, and I also own myself.

The pot metal..?

Yeah... it's metal, but it certainly isn't steel.
I owned an STG44... wasn't overly impressed, but then again it's a reletively inexpensive gun.
Would it have killed the manufacturer to put a decent trigger in the thing..?

Is the gsg not a issc mrk2 copy? If so the first gen issc's had alot of issues

Essentially appears to be a nearly identical copy of the ISSC gen 2 model. Internals are identical in function and takedown. The big difference is the buttstock and the lifetime warranty.

Observing the function of the ISSC vs the STG, I would say that the STG is the better designed gun.

There are some steel parts on the StG 44 wherever they are warranted by the engineering design. For example, the front metal cover is steel, obviously the barrel, locking pin etc. The carbine is already very heavy, nearly on par with the original WWII Sturmgewehr 44 which it replicates.
What you call "the pot metal" is not really what you think. The "pot metal" was eliminated from usage in the 1920's of the last century. The German designers from GSG use very modern, high quality, zinc-aluminum alloys for some parts. Some other parts on the StG 44 are made from a high quality 7075 aluminum alloy used in aerospace.
Decent trigger pull?! The trigger pull is more than decent, it's excellent! I measured 5.5-6.1 lbs. Absolutely optimal. You must have fingers like toothpicks.
I love shooting my GSG StG 44. And it's not "relatively inexpensive". It's regular price is $599 nearly everywhere. One of the most expensive 22LR rifles/carbines.

The weight of the StG MP44 is considerable. It was partly the reason why I bought one, to practice standing and kneeing shots instead of using up a stack of 308 ammo on my M305.

For fun plinking, a bit of hunting I would recommend the GSG -15. For something a bit more, heavy, then the StG MP44. (Its a nice rifle, well finished and good to shoot).

Candocad.
