Hey guys, hope I am posting this in the right spot. I'm a newb and looking at some options. A friend of mine is selling his Remington 700 VTR in .223
Like I said I am new so I would be putting a bunch of rounds down range at 100 yds to start.
I think the price is decent and I know it hasn't been used that much. I don't really want to start the debat between Savage and Remington, although I would look at a Savage (no issues here for that make). Just looking for guys with more experience than me to help guide me on this. :) I know this doesn't matter much but I do like the look of the VTR.
Thanks

I would say that given the minor differences between a Remington and a Savage that your preference in looks is very important.

The Remingotn is also like the 350 chev of the rifle world as far as I know. Lots of upgrades out there.

MHO as a long time shooter just getting into long range/precision.

I had one in .243 that shot nice, just really loud. Short barrel and muzzle brake made it louder to shoot than a sps varmint .308 lol

Just traded mine in .223. Great rifle for out to 250 and ok at longer. Miss it and already looking for another. Action was nice and smooth. If price is right grab it if not i may be interested haha.

Nothing wrong with the VTR - all depends on the price. I usually encourage folks on a budget to look at the SPS Tactical as of late they have been good shooters out of the box and can, like all Remy's, be easily upgraded later.

I was looking for an SPS in 223 when I found the VTR I'm shooting now. I really like it!
It was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up. It took me while yo warm up to the toblerone barrel but I do like it. It's not quite as heavy as an SPS but with the built in muzzle break I can see my bullets hit the paper at 100 yards.

Might want to think about hand loading though. Mine did not like cheap factory ammo, but loves 69 grain smk's and 70 grain Bergers.

I grab it and enjoy it if you can.
