my feeling is in excellent condition it would go for around $500 to $550.
these rugers are one of the finest single action's made, & are a great buy for the $'s. hope you can find one, you won't be dissapointed....
I just bought two of the Ruger Super blackhawks in stainless . one is a 5 1/2 inch and the other is a 4 5/8 inch with the non fluted cylinder . 625.oo at P&D in Edmonton . I owned one for quite a while and would not hesiteate to buy another. I think the going priced for a used one would be around $500, and wouldnt pay much more for one unless it was special in some way.
I have one in .41 magnum right now and love it. That one will be staying with me for sure
Since it has a 5.5" barrel then it is a new model SBH and they are just as good as the older model "3 screw" version. The new model can be carried safely with all chambers loaded and the old model is the same as the colt peacemaker, 5 chambers loaded with the hammer down on the empty one. What ever you feed these revolvers they are accurate and really fun to shoot. I have big hands and the dragoon frame fits my hand better, I hated the square trigger guard so I re-welded it to round and I cut the barrel down to 4 5/8" and it is really fun to shoot. My son loves light/medium plinking loads in it 8 grn of Unique under a keith 240 swc, and you can go even lighter with some trail boss, hardly any blast or recoil, swear you were shooting a .38 spl. Of course on the other end of the spectrum 296 or 2400 under a 240 or 300 grn pill will let you know you are alive and it is hard to wipe the smile off of your face. Here is my little baby, I love the older 3 screw versions for the 4 clicks and the load and skip one and load 4 just like the peacemaker. I have 4 of them and I am always looking for more, they are so fun to shoot with.
I had a 7 1/2" SBH. Sold it last fall. It was a great gun, very accurate. My only complaint was the dragoon style trigger guard. I found it to be a real knuckle basher, however they look nice.
If I were buying another I would favour one in stainless steel.
Had one years ago with the 7.5" bbl, very strong and accurate put a pile of rnds through it, but the 5.5" bbl you are looking at is a better bbl length.
The Ruger Super BlackHawk is the handgun I reach for when I shoot a lot of 44 Magnums. I bought mine in like new condition, with 100 rounds of ammo, for $225 (US). In fairness, my SBH came without the scope and grips. Regards, Richard
Have owned a SBH 7.5 inch for about 18 years now and before that two 44 mag S&Wessons that wouldn't take the 300 gr cast at 1300 fps without comeing loose. The Ruger will take very stout loads and is as accurate as you can be when you find a good load for it. Mine has a Pachmeyer grip on it to avoid the knuckle bite.
A 5.5 brl would be just more of a good thing..
