Opinions: Sightron 10-50x vs 8-32x?

What do you think? I'm looking to upgrade my target rifle glass... Is the extra mag worth the extra size, weight and cost? Having had a chance to look down a 32x S3 I was pretty happy with what I could see. I'm sure the 50x is just as good but... that just seems like a LOT of mag. Overkill? Perfect? Stick to the smaller 32x? What does the collective wisdom of CGN say???

I've had both of the Siii's (still own 2 10-50x60 until upgrades completed) and for the longest time considered the 8-32 the pick of Sightron's litter but not by much and the 10-50 is very good until it darkens a bit at max magnification. The FCH is excellent for F-Class and the LRMOA is very good for more general applications.

Both are great scopes... Yes, I am biased :)

I run 10-50s on my FTR rigs... SIII and SVSS. Most of the time I am at 32X but when the air allows, you can crank it up.

The few times I have had it cranked at a match, the air was also really calm and it was a trigger pull. Nice to have that extra bit of mag and increased aiming precision... "nuts" are scopes that go up to 80X.. yup, they exist and are used.

Eenie meenie....

One of the oft overlooked advantages of very high mag is that in good light it is really nice to be able to see bullet holes at distance - I've often used my higher mag scopes for this rather than bothering with my spotting scope though I do suppose an even better idea would be one of those target cams feeding back to my I-pad.

Not sure if you have tried but I rarely use my Spotter for shot spotting anymore.. so much nicer with the right wireless camera system. Ambient conditions no longer matter.

It is moving from a want to a need for me; I'm shooting at longer distances and, invariably, I'm shooting on my own so it will likely be a purchase soon.

Yep, my wind reading skills got a huge boost once I set up the camera. There is so much you miss when you are looking at a bunch of holes after the fact. That also taught us alot about bullet habits but that is another story.

Not sure how handy you are with electronics and a soldering iron but they can be made for dirt cheap. I run an analog set up with digi cam and monitor .... think LR cordless phone.

If you prefer the wifi to laptop type set up, I can offer you a very well priced set up that is so much better, nicer to use then the big dollar set ups (yes, we tried them both)

If you are just field shooting and can spot your impacts, the camera fall towards a "want".

if you are shooting for score, it rapidly becomes a NEED. The money it will save in ammo is massive.
