Hello all,


I;m looking at buying a Glock 24 C

Any opinions as this for my First IPSC gun ?

I;m just looking at going out and practicing and see if I like IPSC so I dont really want to invest 2000+$ in a gun.

I figured the .40 caliber would be good for cheaper ammo and still plenty of punch ... I also figured the Compensated barrel would help with the muzzle jump.

I believe I can still compete in Open class with a Stock compensated barrel ?

Any thoughts ?

Wow, talk about setting yourself up for failure.
If you are just starting IPSC, don't shoot Open with anything less than a real Open (i.e. STI) gun.
Better yet, I'd recommend starting in production, and shooting 9mm. Give yourself a break, you don't want to come last every match.:runaway:
For a new guy in production, shoot a glock 17 (if you are new to handguns in general, and don't want to worry about them gosh-durned "safety" contraptions) or a cz-sp01-shadow, to give yourself an unfair advantage over others.
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks I'll look into the Glock 34

I may need to find a more Left handed Friendly piece than the glock though : (

Might as well get started right. It's not Production "class" it's Production "Division"
 
Bondo, go to IPSC.org and read up on the rules, or do a bit of a search. The Glock 34 is not eligible for production division, and the 9mm is ineligible for major power factor in Standard. Guns with ports (the "C" in 24 C) are only eligible for open division.

Get a G17, and shoot production.

Yeah, I'm learning more by the Minute

Does anyone Know of a Pistol with an ambidextrous mag release ? or left handed one ? I shoot lefty and don't want to modify the mag release

Far as I know, NO...

Try the Springfield XD 9 or 40cal. I know they have Ambidextrous Mag release in them. Run around 750 for them...

You may want to look at an HK...probably a Custom Sport

Decent trigger and sights...ambi release...Production Legal...if you like HK's

I went to the local shop and weighed out a S&W mp9 and a Springfield XD - 9

I preferred the sights and Mag release of the MP9

Any known issue's / opinions ?

Anyone know which is more accurate ?

Tanfoglio's all have ambidextrous mag releases. You just flip them over and viola. The Stock or StockII would be the Production Division guns, and the Limited Custom for Standard.

The S&W mag release is reversable. I understand the first version 10 round mags suck a$$, but you can (hopefully) A) secure 17 rounders and pin them, or B) rely on revised 10 rounders (not sure if they are any better than the first ones). Other than busted mag bases, I understand they work great. Solid choice.

Steer clear of the XD - Sproingfield have made it company policy to fvck shooters and purchasers of their product by not allowing release of parts, and repairs must be conducted at a factory authorized locations (ie back to Springfield for us in Canada). Ben Dover.

Don't weigh the purchase of a pistol on sights too much, as you will likely want to change them down the road.

If you go Production Div.:
Go 9mm.
Get into handloading your ammo.
Buy Bladetech.

You'll find there can be quite the debate when it comes to loading your own and whether to go 9mm or .40 in Production. It's a personal preference thing (I prefer downloaded .40, Beltfed prefers 9mm). That being said, if you think you might move into Standard Division down the road you'd likely be shooting .40. That's something else to consider, .40 can be loaded for both Production and Standard, whereas your 9mm is Production only.
 
If you went with a Glock 22, it could be used in IPSC Production (downloaded of course) or Standard (with heavier loads). It would not be the most competitive Standard pistol, but at least you could participate.

It could also be used for IDPA in Stock Service Pistol and Enhanced Service pistol.

I read about that .... maybe out of action for a bit if someone breaks on the XD

I also found that the MP9 had a more comfortable grip .... The sights were just a nice noticable difference

My biggest concern was the lefty mag release ... so Glock is out

Guess I'll be gettin the MP when my ATT comes : )

If I move up classes I'll probably upgrade ..... however most people I spoke with recommend the 9mm for starting out , muzzle flip .. cheap ammo etc, so I think I'll start there
