Hi all,

I'm thinking about getting a Commander length 1911. I'm looking to spend about $1500. I see that Armco has the STI Ranger II in 45. Anyone have reviews/opinions re: STI Ranger IIs (any calibre)? Any other brands that should be considered in that price range?

Any and all input is appreciated.

Im looking for a commander as well and its between the ranger II and a CBOB...My only beef with the cbob is that its stainless and only available in 10mm at the moment (nobody is stocking the .45 version). I was contemplating having some work done on a ranger to turn it into a bobtail and machine a few things, checker the front strap etc... but it would probably just be easier to blacken the CBOB. From what I've gathered these are the 2 best .45 commanders available that dont cost twice as much as they should :)

The Dan Wesson CBOB is, to me at least, the best Commander length pistol made, short of having a specialist build one to your exact standards. It has everything you need, and mercifully skips a lot of the crap you don't. Fit and finish are excellent, accuracy reviews are good too. The STI uses a "recoil reducing" spring system - people tell me it works, but honestly if you have trouble with the recoil of a 45 in an all steel pistol with a 4 1/2 inch barrel then the format is probably not for you.
