Hey All;

I've been mulling over the idea of getting a 22 rimfire again... I've had many 10/22's, Lakefield bolts and semi's, and most recently a Winchester 9422 lever... I really liked the lever gun, it felt like a "full sized, real gun" rather than kinda "toy-ish" feel most 22's have... I have also shot my friends "real" Browning semi takedown 22 and it was also nice.

So, I'm wondering just what people think of these two rifle's copied by Norinco and sold by Marstar.ca at such a reasonable price??? Are parts interchangeable with the "real" gun, are they reliable and how are they for accuracy?

Here is the link to the browning copy...

Cheers and Thanks!

Hi Jay,

I can't speak for the two rifles in question but the other Norincos that I have owned and shot have been well built and absolutely reliable. Don't forget Marstars guarantee...it's one of the best out there.

Paron my ignorance, but I've wondered about this for a while now. How is it that Norinco can copy existing firearm designs and sell them? I can't imagine Remington licensing them to build 870s, for example. Aren't these guns patented? I know the 9422s are JUST going out of production. Heck, what about the Taurus Model 63 (Win mdl 63 copy) I just bought?

Anyone have an answer?

Patents expire.

The patent for an 870 expired long, LOOOONG ago.

Regardless, Norinco isn't really concerned with patents...

Taurus builds Beretta 92 clones, don't they?

Stoeger is making a Benelli clone...

The list goes on...

Jay,

I have the JW-21. I bought it slightly used off another member here. I enjoy shooting the gun and the metal seems well built. I had to disassemble it after purchase and flush out a lot of metal "shavings" from the innards. Also the stock fit is not terrific.

I wanted a lever action gun to add to my collection. It's great.

Is it as well made as a Winchester 9422? No.

Nester, How's it going to be for replacement parts for the TOZ 78??? I'm kinda hoping that the Norinco copies could accept a replacement part made by browning or winchester IF they ever needed it...

Oh ya, make sure we get a range report with pics of the TOZ, it might sway my decision...

Cheers
Jay

Re the TOZ-78,, because you asked.

Mine works flawlessly, and with the right ammo shoots less than 2 inches at 100 yards with iron sights., front supported on sandbags.

The Taurus factory was set up by Beretta and licensed the to produce the clone.

Stoeger is making a Benelli clone...

Stoeger is licensed too.

They have offices at Beretta's HQ in Accokeek, Md.

RePete.

I learn something from you every day RePete...

Seriously, I just thought the patents on those items expired...

But you had the right idea. Just the wrong makers. Think Colts SAA, 1911, AR, etc.

BTW, Doesn't EOS or Echo have one of the Norc. 22 levers. there used to be a very good writeup in the pics forum.

I have a norinco jw-21 i bought last summer and have probably put about 300-400 rounds through it. never did any serious accuracy testing with it just shooting with open sights at 50 and 100 meters. I have noticed that you have to hold it pretty well perfectly level and work the action quite briskly in order for it to feed and eject properly. Also there is a bit of play between the two main parts of the action where they are joined by the single screw.

If it doesn't bother you that these rifles are made in what are essentially Chinese Communist slave labor camps ...then the price is good for what you get...just don't expect the fit or finish to compare with the originals...(after all, if you were a slave laborer, would you be overly concerned with the fine quality of your product?). The Chinese get away with copying patented guns because they tell the USA and European manufacturers to "go to hell". They don't recognize western corporate lawsuits and have a big enough market in south-east Asia to be able to afford to ignore the capitalists' whining.

...By the way, China has the world's largest military and its own space program. ...By the way, Canada still sends millions of (your) dollars a year in foreign aid to China...Enjoy your cheap .22s.

Hey Rob,

Where were your TV, clothing, computer and car parts made?

Like it or not, Asia in general and China in particular are currently exporting powerhouses. If not for the availability of ridiculously cheap goods produced by slave like labour, our current North American capitalist system could not support itself.

Boycotting Norinco rifles won't fix this -- a better idea might be to start paying labourers in North America a realistic living wage, so that they can afford to buy goods produced locally, by workers who make a realistic living wage.

It's kind of basic economics, but our elected officials choose to ignore it.

To swerve back on topic a little bit, I think that the .22 lever rifles by winchester et al are overpriced for what you get. North American fit and finish in mass produced items is no longer anything to brag about.

And I don't know about these specific guns, but in general you can't really count on Norinco parts to interchange with the original designs. They're close copies, but not usually 100% clones.

You are so wrong in your attempt to justify slavery (I note that Thomas Jefferson was a slave owner) that there hardly seems hardly any point in trying to straighten you out...so I won't bother.

...by the way, China has the hydrogen bomb...

....enjoy your cheap .22.

Well there`s two ways of looking at the wages in china. You can a) act like a uneducated bleeding heart and say boo hoo they get paid 2 $ a day and you can go home and cry to mommy

OOOOrrr....

You can look at it like someone with an education and an idea how the world works and say, wow, that 2$ might suck, but it's a lot better than working in a rice paddy and starving 2 years out of three.

It`s called development, of course the wage isn`t a living wage here  it`s called Purchasing Power Parity.

I`m not going to argue that the average factory worker in china is well payed, even by chinese standards. But do they make more than they would living off of subsistence agriculture? yes.
Are they going through the exact same thing that the ''developed countries'' did during the industrial revolution? yes.
Are they building up an infrastructure and a working financial sector that will allow for saving and investement followed by growth and diversification? yes.

So I will sit back and enjoy my cheap .22, not that I have a norinco .22 but I`m going to buy one because everything gun I buy from norinco brings the average chinese worker a step closer to that we are fortunate enough to call a standard of living on this side of the ocean

Here we go again :(

What utter blind BS...

You guys will believe any goofy liberal propaganda to justify saving a few beans on a crappy .22....so that you can do what?...brag to your friends about what a great deal you got? A great deal on a Chinese gun? How great is that?

The facts are that the cost of chinese goods are low because they have absolutely no environmental laws and absolutely no labor laws (China went from Communism to Fascism in less than one generation)...It is impossible for our industries to compete with that...on the other hand China is rapidly becoming the most polluted country on earth and because of this the Chinese are becoming the least healthy people...various Cancers, Aids and various "Chicken" flus are unreported epidemics in China...and their "population bomb" is going to be going off again soon...but don't worry about it..pay your taxes so that the Liberals can send millions each year in economic aid to China to help them build their military, develop their space program and increase their atomic bomb production...3 things Canada doesn't have or do...of course we don't need those things...we have cheap Chinese .22s...hurrah!.
