Opinons on a 9mm - 3 choices

XDM

Enough said ;)

I thought his objective was to get a piece of competitive equipment, not a piece of expensive equipment. How many B/A/M/GM class competitors shoot with Beretta?....

I'm by no means an expert but from what i've seen, read and heard generally in IPSC the 3 most common handguns used are a 1911, CZ or a glock. Not to say other models aren't present but the highest percentage used goes to those.

So if your main use of the pistol is going to be for IPSC, take a real close look at that CZ. I don't compete in IPSC but my choice of the 3 you mentioned would be the XD, XDM if I could find one.

XDm with better sights - agree, can you get extra 3-5 mags? For how much?
Shadow with 13# main and 11# recoil - and you are set. Mags are easy to get, in factory 10rds flavour too.
Glock would need some trigger work done, sights, and it may be a good shooter. I shot Glocks, they are not bad, but I still like CZ Shadow better :D

For a competitive shooter, it comes down to comfort, speed and reliability the gun can provide; cost of the complete setup; cost of ammo. Everyone has to decide for themselves...

thanks guys

went to the store today - they didnt have a Shadow, only a P7 Duty and it was way to small so...are they smaller than Shadow??(i have a big hand)

the XD fit perfectly, they dont sell HK at the moment.....so I think I will keep looking to see if I can size a Shadow & HK before I do anything .....might even try a SIG (they had a 2022...fit pretty nice)

Thanks again

Which club you go to? I'm at Burlington. You can try my shadow there.

The Shadow fit a little bigger than the P07 But not by much.

Outside of the bigger grip Glocks and most of the double stack 1911's, oh, and the Desert Eagle :D, there's not many handguns that feel "big" to me. I wear large or extra large motorcycle gloves and find the P-07 to be fine. But my hands wrap around most of it and there isn't a lot of gun showing. It's just the nature of the beast and you need to get used to it.

See if you can find a Beretta 92FS to hold. I did find that the Beretta seems like a slightly bigger grip and not intended for dainty hands. You may find it's better than some of the other options.

Hey, if he likes it and just shoots in IPSC for fun then why not shoot a Beretta. Who knows, maybe he'll be the first National Production Class Champion to wind with a Beretta.

Sometimes it's about enjoying the day and learning to shoot better than merely winning..... at least that's what I keep telling myself since I don't see myself winning any championships in the near future.... :D

beretta

Thanks for the offer to let me try your Shadow Carsmovies...very nice of you. I am a long way away though but if I am ever close I might call...

The beretta does fit very nice - tried one - not too expensive either.

Can I ask another question:
Between the XD and Beretta - which one is easier to break down for cleaning ? or are they both relatively simple?

THanks for all the advice guys

Bubba, you SHOULD at least try a Shadow before you make up your mind if at all possible. I got to shoot quite a few guns thanks to the Rent-A-Gun range near me. One of those was a Beretta. It was a neck and neck race between the Beretta and a Baby Eagle. Glock, M&P and all the other polymer guns were not even in the running for me. The heavier steel guns all just felt so much more "right". Then I got to shoot a Shadow that had been tuned for IPSC. The gun felt great and the improvements just bowled me away. So that clinched it for me.

But as always YMMV. But it's still worth searching out a Shadow to try before you buy anything.

Np, where you located then?

^^^ beretta is super easy to break down, takes about 10seconds if your drinking a coffee at the time. dunno about the xd.

This. I bought a Beretta M9A1 and I couldn't be happier. This gun has a seriously high quality feel, nothing rattles and everything fits flush. The grip is AWESOME and its got almost a 5 inch barrel, giving you better accuracy with it. Shoots good long range.

The only thing I would change about mine is that I would prefer the dot/post sights instead of the 3 dot config found on civilian models, but its not a huge deal. I might get it smithed to feature dot/post night sights at some point. Has a rail, looks extremely good imo. My original post when I got it is here:
