OPIONS only in 338 Lapua in HS VS Sako

Yup, I agree with the good looking fella.:)

A package deal (with dies, brass, bullets, and powder) for the right price can be a real bargain.
All it takes is a bag of money, a face to face visit, and a bit of negotiating.
Most guys cant see that far or that clearly.

I will even take you out to shoot a bear with it - just for the effect. It is a sight to behold when a 300gr SMK smacks a bear.

Will somebody please buy this rifle...:)

And back on topic....I believe the TRG is a superior rifle to the HS in respect to ergonomics, workmanship and design. The action is very nice....

I have handled both but shot neither. I do prefer the feel and just the smoothness of the action of the trg. Wanted to buy one for s few years now and finally had to settle for the remington just so I could get into the 338 game.

I would love to have the opportunity to handle them both but being located in a small northern BC community north of nowhere it is virtually impossible to see both. I have handled a TRG 42 but the HS i have only seen on the internet- thats my delima

I've shot both and owned an HS a long time ago.

If your set between these two rifles, (if I was in your shoes) I would buy the TRG and never look back.

Between the HS and the TRG your comparing apples to oranges.

I had a HS HTR in 308 a couple of year ago. Nice rifle, not too heavy, not quite as accurate as I was hoping, should have gotten the brake for long shooting days. Sold it when the ex became the ex. This time around I'm going to go for the Sako TRG though.

rdm-ca, with all the different options for a .338LM now a days, how did you settle on these two in particular? What you read about them, how they looked? It took me forever to decide on mine and it came down where i was going to do most of my shooting (the range, so weight wasn't a real factor) the looks (my superficial side) and the fact that i was well aware that i was probably going to go through a couple before i figured out what i really wanted. I went with a factory rifle for the very reason that was mentioned earlier and that was re-sale. When i finally figure out the calibre, stock, action etc that i want then i will eventually go the custom build route as it will not be leaving the safe for any reason. As far as builders go, Rick and the others at Alberta Tactical or hard to beat. They have made a couple rifles for me and they have never given me reason to go anywhere else.

The reason I am in the midst between HS and Sako are the quality of the two as personal and reading on the internet. I have had HS prior in 300 WM and have handled Sako TRG 42. But camparing apples to apples as to the feel, balance, weight distrubution, recoil, etc. is why I asked who has handled and shot both the HS & Sako in 338 L . A custom build is a great idea to get exactly what you want but then you run into the availability or parts when trying to resource them ( wait times) , basically the over all time between decision making to complete lock & loaded pointing down the range. Only thing with manufacture is I want a 30" barrell to justify the caliber and get everything its worth,so looks like I will be changing and modifying a manufactured into semi custom regtardless. And i know its my decision but nice to here from other gun nutz with pros and cons of either way-THANKS

I am in the process of selling a H.S HTR .338 LM for me being left handed I find the sako a bit more comfortable both seem to be comparable as far as accuratcy.

I have both. The HS precision pro2000 RDR in .308 and The TRG42 in .300 Win Mag. Both are SUB MOA rifles, very accurate!, even just using factory ammo. Both of the rifles shoot under 1/4 MOA at 300m (max distance at my range!) on a flicky windy day, using just surplus ammo. In my opinion the HS is more kinda "compact", it is very good for urban type of environment situation(off-hand or rest), and The TRG42 is designed for open environment situation, very deadly. The most recent test shown the TRG42 in .338 Lapua is capable of hitting a target at 500m with just under 1/4 MOA with factory ammo also under extreme temperature range from -35 to +10!That kicks-ass!.
I hope this will help you.
CHEERS.

Don't ya know that 1/4 MOA at any distance is not possible according to some of the blokes on this forum.

Did you just read some type of police magazine? lol

they both shoot great under.... extreme conditions the sako is better. It will handle your environment better, in and out of the cold, extreme temp changes, extreme moisture variations etc. I wouldn't go custom unless you intend to bench rest in moderate climate.

Hs / trg

I own a Sako m995 338 lapua and a HS 338 lapua hunter 2000. Both of my rifles are hunting rifles so not the same as a heavy TRG or HS. I like the HS better, it seems to shoot with less recoil. Those are my thoughts.
