Just saw a deal at my local Co op on Federal " Champion " 36 gr ammo. Is this stuff any good or will it just misfire every tenth round ? I've had some federal ammo where at least 1 in 20 was a dud.

I need a supply for gopher/plinking duty and the price seemed right. $11.97 for the 525 bonus pack.

Thanks for the advice

i used federal ammo from walmart. it was a 550 pack. i had 1 or 2 misfire ber box. for the price you can't compare it to premium ammo.

Shoots great in my Henry GoldenBoy. My Ruger 10/22T hates it, lots of FTE and its not an accurate .22lr round. For plinking, the price is had to beat. Maybe one or two misfires per box, and I like that they are copper plated....helps keep the lead off your fingers after loading a few hundred :dancingbanana: .

This is the cheapest ammo that Federal makes but if it works ok in your gun then it's a pretty good deal. If it doesn't function or is not very accurate try it in another gun. Phil.

Bought a bunch of this same stuff from Wally World. Price is right for plinkin and gophers and in two boxes of 550 there were no misfires out of three different rifles. My oony complaint is that the hollow point seems to be more of a solid with a dimple on the tip. In general, I think that it is the same as American Eagle which is more expensive.

We shoot alot of it. Let's put it this way, for the price, who cares if you get the odd midfire. It's cheap fun. I like quality rifles. But i don't like quality ammo. Not for the volume that I shoot. If It's out of a bolt action, (The only kind I own now) it'll be good. You might not like it out of an autoloader though.

I use it a lot for practicing my offhand shooting, and find the reliability, as well as accuracy to be very good for bulk ammo. I might get a misfire every 500-1000 rounds, but big deal: For the cost I find this ammo very good :)

I liked the old Wal-Mart 550 round Valu-Pak better, but the 525 round Champion pack is the same ammo, IIRC. I've never had any problems using this Federal rimfire ammo. Its plenty accurate and I've never had a problem with it in any of my bolt, singles, levers or semi-auto rimfires. Can't say the same about Winchester stuff. Xpert & Wildcat is crap and the Dynapoints aren't that much better, at least in my guns. Lots of duds and accuracy is so-so. If I couldn't get Federal, I'd opt for CCI or Eley, but for the most part the Federal stuff covers my needs quite well. Hell, I'd even shoot Blazer stuff rather than Winchester Wildcat or Xpert! CCI Green Tag is good, while the top of the line Eley stuff seems to be the most accurate ammo I've run through my guns. Of course, you're going to be paying a premium for the latter two.

I've gone through two boxes of it and never had a missfire. My 10/22 didn't always eject it properly, say 1 in 20 would stovepipe, but my bolts loved it. It's on sale in the local CO-OP flyer, I think they were 11.95 ish.

I am a cheap guy and I love this stuff. I think I have had about 4 misfires in about 8 boxs. My bolt and pump like it for targets. As for accurate I could not say much there. I always blam the ammo when my groups suck.

Talking about cheap stuff, try some of the Remington game loads. I don't think it is a cheap as the Fed bulk and is sold in bricks of 400, but seems as good as Cyclones in most of my rifles.

Remington Golden Bullets (36 g HP; 1280 fps) 525 Bulk pack at Bass Pro = $11.95. Best bang for my buck.

Federal does not have the snap to reliably cycle the action on my Browning pistol.

22 ammo

I like the Federal Eagle in 40grains solid point. It happens to shoot well in my Annie, and also in a MSR 54 that I sold to a friend. For really good accuracy, but at much more cost you will need to use ELey or Lapua. Depends upon the type of competition level you choose.
I love to go to our provincial club matches and use 'the Eagle' just to get the others going, especially when they are using Lapua. Eh, Crow, sandymac?

I find the federal bulk as reliable enough and by far the most reliable of the bulk ammo. A couple of my 22 really like it others not so much. I don't use it for gophers anymore the bullet does not expand enough so I find that it is a poor killer, but great for a day of plinking.
