My old Merrels hav finally packed it in. What make and style of boots do you fellas reccomend. I'm looking for something with reasonoble water resistance, light and easy to walk in as well as warm to about -15 or so.

Loved my Merrel but wondering bout other brands

I have a pair of Merrel as well. But if there are deep snow, I have a pair of Kodiak in Hardwood. It's not the most sort after boots, but there sure are comfy, and cheap too (89 I got mine for).

Rocky's are a good value, I am very happy with mine, but I don't hike the mountains either.

Cabela's seems to sell Irish Setters a fair bit cheaper than any shops I have been in.

I have a pair of irish setter. I think they're deer tracker 600 gram. They are comfortable and totally waterproof. After a week of walking through wet grass and swamps, still bone dry inside. Nice boot.

I have the Deer Trackers as well, and I wear Red Wing's at work. Made by the same company, I have yet to find something more comfortable on my feet. One thing both my Dad and I have found (he wears Elk Trackers) is to be carefull on ice with them. They aren't the worst I've worn on ice, but you only need your feet to go out from under you once to have a bad day. But they are damn warm and dry.

I have Irish Setter Shadow Treks, bought on line from Bass Pro 'cause no one in Canada had my size 7. Paid @ $110 US plus shipping etc.
Very, very impressed with them, most comfortable boot I have ever had. Insulated and Gortex. Have used them fall, winter (down to minus 35 C) and spring.
Fit like a glove right out of the box.
Trying to get same in uninsulated but they are out of stock.

I am a fan of Danners. I have a pair of there Striker GTX SWAT boots that fit like a glove that I use for just about everything except when the weather starts to turn cold. When it stats to turn cold, I go for the Frontier GTX boots. These things have 1000 grams of Ultra Thinsulate in them, they keep me warm even with my poor circulation and stadning around at the range in the middle of January.

If you got the bucks, I would recommend Filson Highlanders. They are by far the most comfortable pair of boots I have ever worn. They are insulated with wool and are very warm.

I got a new pair of HH Brown/Browning hunting boots last year. Broke them in within a day and put 100 miles on them grouse hunting last fall ...... perfect! You can great find some great discounts on them on popular auction sites too!

I have a pair of Danners. I actually own three different pairs of Danner boots, since I figure they're the best footwear to grace this planet with their presence. I have a set of Danner Frontier GTX for hunting. 400 gram insulation, gore tex, 8 inch ankle.

I have a pair of Danner Journeyman for work. Steel toe, gore tex, 6" ankle.

And I have a set of Danner Agitator 45 GTX for everyday wear. Gore tex, ultra comfy.

I am also looking for a new pair of cold weather boots, currently I am wearing a pair of prospector RCMP 10" boots with an unknown amount of thinsulate, I think 600 grs but would like something with a more aggressive sole.

How do the elk trackers fit, I like them nice and tight through the heel and ball of my foot with room to move my toes. I wear Ecco shoes for most everything else because they fit this way. I wore an pair of uninsulated gortex lined light hikers of theirs when I was in Africa, but they don't make something appropriate for winter hunting.

Can't go wrong with Danners. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for.
I picked up a pair of Danner Canadians (10" 600gram) a number of years ago and I don't think I'll ever need another pair of hunting boots.

Has anyone tried the new Scent Shield boots? My old browning's are getting pretty wore out and would like to try a pair.

I guess it's the new Scentblocker boots!! My mistake.

The Irish Setters are very nice boots if you are looking for insulation, several models available.

I am partial to Meindel boots as my last set (Island Pro) lasted 6 years of being worn every day - had to be resoled though. I have another set now and love them.

Add me as a fan of Danners as well. Bought a pair of good ones from Schnees about 5 years ago, they are standing up well, and are warm and super comfortable. Regards, Eagleye
