Optic advice for a 300 blackout

Comrades,
Just picked up my first 300 blackout (MCX Virtus-- AR 15 platform in the "pistol" format). Love it! Even with the 8.5 inch barrel I've had no issues with cycling, and this thing is just damn ###y.

Tried putting an Aimpoint T1 on it. While it works, I am hoping to bring this back to the 100 yard line and a non magnified red dot just doesn't cut it. Thought about putting an Elcan on it, but I'm trying to keep cost down as this purchase was expensive enough.

Wondering if you fine peoplekind have any advice on what I should put on this. Ideally, I'd like a reasonable quality 1-4 optic, preferably sub 1000 dollars (with mount), but can pay more if needed (would love to pay much less, so I can buy more ammo). Also, not sure if I should get one with a 5.56 or 7.62 reticle. My research online has not given me a straight answer on that topic, so would rather get advice from you folk who actually shoot 300 blk.

What not try a 3X or 6X magnifier for the Aimpoint? of look for a 1X8 scope? reticle, I'd say 308, since it a 30cal bullet.

Good idea, thanks! I hadn't considered that. However, I'm deciding against it at this time, only because I need another optic anyway...I have another MCX in 5.56 that is now missing it's red dot. I have a HiLux 1-4 on my Daniel Defence and love the utility, but want something with a bit bigger eye box. Ideally, I'd like to be able to run the 300 blackout both up close and at range of around 100 yards, so a 1-4x optic works overall.

Even a specific 300 blackout reticle wouldn't do you much good, since there is so much variation in the ammo. I have a 1-6 scope with a center illuminated mildot reticle on my rem 700 blk.

Right now using Hornady ammo, which has been pretty good. Federal has been ok as well. Going to be reloading as soon as I build up some brass so I can fine tune my load. But yes, I agree...at 100 yards, a blackout specific reticle won't matter much.

I like my Strike Eagle 1-6 but it is heavy on my shorty 300BLK
The hashes line up out to 150ish with subs. Just fun to plink I haven’t done any dope cards for it.
I keep switching back and forth between it and my red dot.
Haven’t tried a magnifyer but am looking at one too.

Any thoughts on the Sig Bravo 3 or 4? The Bravo 4 is overpriced, but the 3 is sub 1k and a 3x magnification. Newish so not many reviews, but what's out there is good.

Take a good look at the Vortex PST II 1-6x 24mm, priced right at $1000. I found it so close to my Razor HD II 1-6x 24mm (that cost twice as much), that I sold the Razor and kept the PST II. It is an excellent optic for close to medium range, perfect for your application. It is what I have on my .300 Blk Virtus after much trial with various other brands and magnification ranges. For me, the Vortex PST II 1-6x hits the Goldilocks sweet spot of "just right" for performance at price. YMMV, of course...
