Optic mounting tips?

Okay guys is there any tricks out of the usual to mounting scopes that keep your scopes from being marked short of buying Burris signiture rings or lapping ring sets.
Does anyone put something around the scope body inside the ring or other such tricks that work from experience?

I use a polished one-inch diameter steel rod to mount the ring bottoms and get them perfectly aligned and parallel before ever putting the scope into them. I won't drop the scope in until the rings are perfect and the rod slides easily and smoothly back and forth.

But I also lap the rings a bit.

buy good rings, then you will have much less to worry about

Buy the Burris rings, they eliminate so many issues, INCLUDING misalignment.More yet if you get the offset insets, well worth the money and they ain't much!
