Hey members, looking for some suggestions for an optic and rings for a Tikka T1x when it comes in. I have a budget of around $500 to get the package and just wondering what would work well for target shooting up to 100. I'm no expert so would like to hear from those more experienced with glass. I also would prefer quality, warranty over say a longer reaching optic. Leupold and Vortex are my first choice but have also been looking closely at Nikons Prostaff 5 and the Burris lineup but I don't know anyone who owns either.

Thanks

Shooting out to 100 yards/meters with a .22LR is getting in "longer reaching" territory. Higher magnification is considered desirable by many shooters, even at 50 yards. With a budget of around $500, however, it would be necessary to look for more modest magnification, especially in Leupold -- and even there it would by necessity be in the previously owned market. Look for fine crosshairs and adjustable objective (or side focus).

The Tikka can take 11mm dovetail rings, which are perfectly fine on a rimfire, or Tikka-specific rings that screw into the tapped holes in the receiver. A Picatinny/weaver rail is another alternative that will likely attach to the receiver. You can probably get a 20 or 25 MOA rail or use Burris Signature Zee rings with offset inserts that can provide more than enough elevation for 100 yard/meter shooting with a .22LR.

All of what he said ^^^

I'd start with something in the minimum that can zoom to the 16x range, and the most important thing is that it has adjustable parallax.. either AO (adjustable objective - the front turns to dial distance) or 'side focus' which is pretty self explanatory, you dial the distance from the knob on the side (usually more expensive).

Thank you guys, I'm actually considering the new Vortex 3-18x44 Strike Eagle, what do you think? I know budget went up. I did install a DIP picatinny on my CZ so hopefully can go that route with the 11mm dove. I also changed my order to .17HMR as well, originally was a .22LR T1x.

Something to keep in mind is that you can get good quality .22LR match ammo for less than HMR ammo. There's no such thing as match .17HMR ammo available.

Very true and thank you for that comment. I have a few .22LR already and I have always wanted the .17HMR but as you say cost is much more and that has always swayed my decision, and in fact it did because I had pre-ordered in .22 but I have that "what if" in my mind so I figured this would be a good time to go against my better judgement.

I’ve gone this route with my riffles I’ve put a picatiny rail on all the rifles then I’ve put Med warne quick disconnect rings on all my scopes which allows me to change easily as needed
My realm is hunting and shooting silhouette and motorcycle grouse hunting

Ruger 10/22 take down with x-22 backpackers stock
Cz 452 style silhouette in 22lr
Tikka T3 Battue in 308
And soon Tikka T1X in 22lr

Scopes so far
Nikon 2-7x32
Burris fullfield 2-7 32
Vortex diamondback 4-12-42 AO
Vortex crossfire 6-18x44 AO

Adjusting AO is key if you want to shoot different distances and just nice to have
