I'm interested in starting to learn more about longer range shooting. The goal is to eventually set up a dedicated precision rifle style rifle with an upper mid range FFP scope such as a PST Gen II or similar. For now I am considering putting a different optic on my Tikka 308 hunting rifle that has an exposed elevation target. Currently I shoot 3-400 yrds max with just basic reticle hold overs. Would I gain much experience from putting something such as a Viper HS LR on it even though it is SFP with a BDC reticle? Or am I better just put the money towards buying the bigger scope I want such as a PST and run that for the shooting season to practice then switch back to my lighter scope for hunting season?
