On another forum a member asked about experience with optics boosters. A company out of Minnesota makes some that seem to be well received.

I like the idea of higher magnification to see bullet holes when at the range but being able to retain a more reasonable amount of magnification when hunting. If I was rich I would have a T-36 or other target scope and QD rings for range duty and a regular scope for hunting, alas I am not rich:(

I think I may order one and give it a try but I am just asking if anyone had had any experience with such an item.

I use one and quite like it. On an Elite 4200 6x24, it gives the apparent view of a larger mag scope without the narrow field of view of a true high mag scope.

Essentially, this is a magnifying glass for your eyepiece. The image is the same - just bigger. There is no change in resolution, colour or clarity- just bigger.

Gene doesn't make an turn in lense for the Elites as the eyepiece is not threaded. I am using the universal mount (slip on). Works fine but now your eye relief has been shortened by the lense hanging off the back of the scope. No big recoilers using this set up.

Big problem is that, on some scopes, you can't adjust the eyepiece focus to have both the reticle and image in focus. This also means you just can't take it off and shoot. You have to readjust the reticle focus with and without so not something I would use in the field.

So you may want to check with Gene with your scope to see if it will work.

Thats good to hear. Nothing that you mentioned would be a problem for me.

I sent a message to see if they still ship to Canada, just to be on the safe side. From the website it seems like it should be okay but in todays world who knows.

After I hear from them I plan to get the Universal fit as well, then I can hopefully use it on the 3-9 that is on my .22 for 50 yard shooting. Mostly I want it for my VX-II 6-18 on my .204 so recoil is not a concern.

Even if the focus or POI changes I only plan to use it at the range while doing load development. At the end of the day it will come off, and if need be, I can shoot a couple more groups to get it back to where I want it for varminting. It will be cheaper and less work than a second target scope so I am willing to live with a few compromises.

BTW what magnification did you go with
 
these sound like those boosters you put on binoculars...they cost roughly the same price, unless you can catch them on sale. I know there's one...forget the manufacturer tho, that was on sale for about $100 back in the summer.
