Optics for ARs

Aimpoint T1/H1 and ADM mounts, or the best deal out there is the Aimpoint PRO.

Just picked one up not too long ago actually... Taking it out tomorrow for the first time actually. Mounted it with an ADM Cantilever mount, looks pretty slick. Also added a ARD and the Comp M3 rubber cover... Loving it!

Vortex PST 1-4 with an ADM mount.

That's what I had on my AR for quite awhile and loved it. Works for 10yds out to 300yds.

So do you have any suggestions for the OP that aren't serious junk?

An excellent to good quality 1 - whatever scope with target turrets for bullet drop placed in a ADM mount (Recon or other) is one of the best compromises out there, and perfectly suited for naught to 300m shooting.

- Leopold VX-R patrol in 1.25-4x20

- Leopold MR/T 1.5-5x20
- Nightforce NXS 1-4x24
- Vortex Razor 1-6x24
- USO SR-6 (SN-4)
- S&B 1.1-4 shortdot

The eotech and aimpoint red dots are good at what they do but are poor choices past 100m, and therefore non-starters (or at least should be).
Fixed power combat optics such as the Elcrap and ACOGs are decent for 100m out, but are hampered up close.

This has all been hashed over and over of course, so do some reading.

Millet, Burris, lucid: junk.
Vortex spars with a magnifier: junk and junk
Eotech with a magnifier:expensive junk with other junk

I was going to mention that one, but have no experience with it and a little concerned it is a little 'light' where needed - how does it hold up to abuse and a decent firing schedule?

I'm getting blind in my old age so I went with a 1-4x optic with a QR mount. Fits nicely over my folding rear sight. Heavier than the usual tiny optic some guys use, but if you need some magnification occasionally then it's something to consider.

...but apparently, it's all junk. I figure as long as those paper targets don't shoot back, I should be ok. :)

I picked up a Hi-Lux CMR 1-4x, from the EE for a very good price.

Bright, clear glass (especially for the price) - and a useful reticule - available in your choice of illuminated red or green (I have the green). I zeroed it for 100m - and found the Bullet Drop Comp. (calibrated for 5.56/.233) worked very well for 200m (allowing hits on pop tins pretty regularly).

I have access to a 600m range - so I'll try it out at some longer distances, next range day.

I mounted it in a Burris PEPR (with QD levers) - and find it a solid mounting, while allowing a firm cheek-weld on an ACS-L stock.

Hard to beat the combo - though, like all the 1-4x scopes - it adds some weight to the rifle. I like the feel on my 16'' Adcor Bear, but it would be a bit much for anything sub-12'' IMHO.

Ha ha - I see great minds think alike!

It held up quite well for me. I did have issues with the illuminated retical staying on, but that was the only issue. For range use I don't think it can be beat with the price and warranty.

If it's being used on the range, for hunting or 3 gun or other matches I think its a great option.

I switched to a US Optics though for a few different reasons, dropping my AR (on purpose) and having my scope survive and hold zero was one of those reasons.
