Lots of good suggestions already.
I hunt from a variety of stands, some offering very limited distance visibility, and others where you can see up to 180 yards or thereabouts. Mostly I use a rifle with a Leupold 2.5-8x, but I have others with 2-7x, and 1-4x scopes, most mounted in quick detach rings. Nothing against the red dots, but I find the lower power variables plenty versatile for my purposes. Also, they all provide some degree of "light gathering" which can be useful both early and late, especially in somewhat enclosed heavily wooded situations.
