Optics for larger caliber very short distance hunts

Lots of good suggestions already.
I hunt from a variety of stands, some offering very limited distance visibility, and others where you can see up to 180 yards or thereabouts. Mostly I use a rifle with a Leupold 2.5-8x, but I have others with 2-7x, and 1-4x scopes, most mounted in quick detach rings. Nothing against the red dots, but I find the lower power variables plenty versatile for my purposes. Also, they all provide some degree of "light gathering" which can be useful both early and late, especially in somewhat enclosed heavily wooded situations.

$200? Best bet is to cruise the EE and hope to find a Leupold VX2 1-4x. For a few dollars more you might get a 1.5-5x VX3.

I've never used a RDS in this situation, but it seems like it would be very effective.
