I have a Savage 12 BVSS in .223 with a Bushnell 4200 6-24x40 on it, and would like to upgrade the optics.
I shoot mostly from a bench (ocationally prone) up to 300 yards. I don't compete at all and don't know anything about F class, etc, but I would like to keep within the rules in case I want to compete at some point.
I was planning on getting a Sightron from Jerry. Either the 8-32x56 or a 10-50x60. What would you guys recomend? Does it make sense to get the higher magnification, even though I'll only be shooting to 300 yards? It just seems like 50x my be "too much" for what I'm doing, but I don't know. Is there any benefit to getting the 8-32 over the 10-50? What magnification do competing bench rest shooters usually use? I was thinking the FCH reticle would make the most sense for BR shooting, but I would like to here any differing opinions on that as well.
Also, the rifle currently has the turn-in style mount at the rear with windage-adjustable mount in front (what is this style called?), and Burris Signature Zee rings. Is this a suitable mounting system, or should I change to something else? I will have to get new rings anyway, and I don't mind spending a little extra to get a really good mounting system. Is it better to go with a one piece mount, or does it not matter?
Thanks for you help!
