Optics for service rifle?

Mirage is mirage, its not going to change. I seldom use more than 10x with my March. The draw to this scope is the compact size, features like zero stop and having a mil/mil ffp setup similar to what is becoming the norm on tactical precision rigs.

Okay, I get what your saying. Basically, the ultra high magnifications that we're starting to see on these units is "fluff" mostly?

It's not a matter of the optic being "fluffy". No optic can see clearly through mirage, that's physics, you can't change it. The mirage is always there, the higher magnification just lets you see it more clearly. It's kind of like having a low resolution image like a thumbnail. It looks good at its normal size, but when you zoom it, the pixels become more prominent and the image actually looks worse than it did un-zoomed.

The high end of the magnification isn't going to help you in SR, by the low end 3x is useful for position and close range stuff.

Had a look at the PST 2.5-10 yesterday. Not bad except that its SFP. Price is right and the reticle, which is similar to Leupolds TMR, looks to be just fine for SR. Anyone know who has nightforce 2.5-10s in stock?

Nobody has them in stock. I'd wait for the Shot Show anyway.

March has announced their 1-8x24mm FFP:

Leupold just released the Mark AR Mod 1 scoped with 0.1mil turrets also.
http://www.leupold.com/hunting-shooting/scopes/mark-ar-riflescopes/

There is a 3-9x40mm and a 1.5-4x25mm in that family. New reticles on them too.

Rumor is that the Mark 4 MR/T Riflescopes will be released in mil/mil FFP. Wouldn't be surprised if Nightforce did the same with their 2.5-10x32.

I also found this Weaver 2-10 on their site. I like that it is FFP.

Anybody have any experience or information on Weaver quality?

It is apparently now available (down south, at least).

Nice. Glad vortex came out with an ffp 2.5-10. Unless nightforce does the same that's probably how I'll go. Now how about mounts? I see you guys like the spuhr. Looks good but man it's pricey! What else is out there in the offset world?

I recall a Vortex fogging up during NSCC last year. Warranty kicked in fast. Replacement arrived, delivered to the DCRA office in two days. Of couse, for two days.....

I use Vortex 3" offset mounts (3" is more versatile than 2"). Have both the QD and non-QD. Kind of like the non-QD better since nothing sticks out to snag on anything and cost is half the QD price ( ~$100).

Wouldn't hold my breath on Nightforce. Looks like their only new FFP scope is the BEAST.

With my gratuity coming in sometime (late?) this year, I have a chunk of it earmarked for a 1-6 or 1-8. I want to wait to see if we will be able to get our hands on the S&B 1-8.

I kinda kick myself for not jumping on a 1-4 Wolverine was selling new for $2000 just before christmas...

Should have held on longer on my purchase! Looks like vortex is doing the 2.5-10x32 FFP for $899 list shipping in the spring...... Looks like my 2.5-10x44 is going on the EE when these start shipping!

Couple of new scopes to mention that I found at Shot Show 2013 (reports on them in the Shot Show forum) :

1) Bushnell AR Optics 1-4x 24mm Throw Down PCL:
http://www.bushnell.com/tactical/rifle-scopes/ar-optics/1-4x-24mm-throw-down-pcl#
It's a budget FFP optic. The turrets were in 0.1 mil clicks at the show, but the website shows them in 1/4 MOA.

2) Sightron has upgraded their 1-7x24mm
(Doesn't appear to be on their site yet).

There are some reports on other scope too, but they've already been listed in this thread.

The upgraded Mark AR 1.5-4x24mm Mod 1:

I got to try this scope put on media day. It's a nice little optic for the price. The pitfall with it is that there is nothing to indicate which turn the turret is on, so it's relatively easy to lose track of your zero if you aren't careful.

The 3-9x
