Bought a Stag 10 in 308, and am now debating optics for it. I see it as filling the 'DMR' slot in my gun collection.... I want to be able to use it for anything from close up, out to maybe 400 yards. Any thoughts of suggestions?

I'm probably going to put something like a Bushnell LRTSi 3-12 or HDMR2 3.5-21 on the one I'm building (22" 6.5 Creed) mainly because I have a couple of each of those already. My ideal scope though would be a Leupold Mk5 3.5-18. Great mag range and quite light. If I was doing more of a shorter .308, probably get one of the new 1-8xs.Trijicon or if I was feeling rich one of the new Nightforces. One of the older Nightforce 2-10s would be a nice choice too.

I'm thinking more along the lines of a 1-6 x or a 2-8x but options seem sorta limitted in the under 1500 range. Calibers are .338 federal and 7mm-08 from 19" barrels

I currently have a Nikon black force 1000 1-4x on my .308 stag as it was what I had laying around. It actually does a fairly good job I was surprised. I built mine with mid to long range in mind so I am shopping around for another option. I was really looking at the Nikon P-308 or M-308 series. Would love a Nightforce or something of that level but do not have funds for that.

What’s your price range?

I like the glass on the Trijicon Accupoint. A 1-6 or 1-8 would work well out to 400. Problem is weight. Those things are heavy!

Price and weight ranges that are acceptable to you. I think a lot of the time people do not think about the weight since they just shoot at ranges, however if you are carrying it the combined weight becomes much more of an issue. I like Trijicon scopes and have a couple of Accupowers, the lightest is the 3-9x40mm which weighs 17 ozs

I don't need long range magnification for mine. They will be close to medium range hunting rifles. Close range more often than not so the 1-6 scopes are what I'm looking at.
I'll probably end up with 2 optics I can switch out for different hunts with one being a 1x etched recticle prismatic , most likely the leupold.
Weight is a big part of the equation , as is functionality/durabilty and ease of target aquisition inside 200 yards.

I put the Bushnell lrtsi 4.5-18 x 44 on my .308.

I think that's good range for the caliber and my skill. However for my 6.5 cm I'm looking for some that gets a little extra magnification. like the dmrs...

I've been working out, so weight isn't as much of a concern as it was previously ;) Price, I am REALLY liking this gun, so I think I'd be willing to go $1-2k for the right optic for it. I may sell something else to raise funds, maybe one of my Valmets. Anyone tried the Elcan TR 1-3-9? That looks interesting... I was thinking around 2-10X magnification, so this would cover that.

Had the same issue but waited for the Black Friday sales. Didn't find what I wanted locally but Al Flaherty's had some great deals I couldn't say no to.
