So I just bought the Tapco Intrafuse Stock System w/ Rails for the sks (good price in the states). In short, I think this is the begining of a beautiful friendship. but I "need" a vertical foregrip, flashlight (red light), and some sort of close to mid range optics and the optics must be non-electronic, any advice?

I'm going to keep the bayonette but shorten it so it will fold away in front of the lower rails.
Cheers!

I wouldn't bother putting any optics on the gas tube mount, from my understanding they never hold zero. If you want an optic mounted in the scout position, I would use one made from BC Tactical that mounts and replaces the rear site leaf.

hmm thats an interesting point. I'll have to do some research on this. Any one else have an opinion on this? or other ideas as to what to put on the gas tube mount?

Don't waist your time or money pissing around with gas tube mounts, receiver cover mounts or anything else that is "pressure fit to hold zero". The vast majority are pure garbage.

If you want something that works google: Choate SKS mount.

I'd knock out those two roll pins holding the handguard on and go with the bare tube look. :D ;) I've read and seen how the rail section can accidentally be used as the rear site and throw your shot right off.

Choate makes the best rear scope mounting options, check out the "SKS Optics and Mounts" Sticky for some ideas. There are also a couple recent threads showing what/how the Choate mount looks like mounted.

And like I mentioned, BC Tactical makes a nice scout mount for the SKS that fits well and make a solid mount option for a forward mounted gun site. You can find pics of that in the EE Part & Pieces or in this forum, just use the search function.

But like it was said in an above post, don't bother trying to mount optics in any fashion that was mentioned.

thats very true i've noticed that that seems to be a risk as it all looks very similar from behind the gun. I might see if I can find a way of securing the gas tube cover better, I has checking it out and there is a very slight wiggle when I put a fair amount of force into it. My issue with the Choate scope mounts is it raises your optic up very high which seems like it would be a dissadvantage when using "Gun Fighter" where the idea is to hide as much of yourself behind your plate as possible.

I agree with jt_trouble the TAPCO stock set-up with a B.C. Tactical scout mount and a red dot

On the other hand the Choate mount on a beded fiberglass regular stock works good to for long range gong shot's. It all depends on the user. Although from the years of owning an SkS I find that after 200 meter's with an optic it's a crap shoot and anything after 50 meter's with iron's is the same way. Although that's my personal point of view.

The BC tactical mount and a Vortex Sparc = win.

i got a BSA scope with receiver cover mount and it holds zero no problem... minor adjusting on occasion.. i can draw pictures (happy face frown face etc) at 50 or 100 yards.

scope and mount was like $120 (ish).. im interested in one of the rear leaf sight mounts but can make 1 for $25.. i aint paying $120 for it...

I recommend 9x or greater magnification tho.

As other's have been saying. This is the main reason why we developed this mount that we retail for $74.99. Our mount even allows the use of stripper clip's if the optic that the operator chooses does not exceed the rail space.
Here are a few pictures all be it not on a TAPCO stock.

LOL, it's going to take you a couple days with a cnc to make your first one.

But hey, if 16 hours of work is worth $50 to you, have at 'er.

if it takes you 16 hrs on a regular MANUAL mill rather than 1 hr... better change your gerbil out for a real motor...
and yes its got a full Mitutoyo DRO. i dont have a CMM to lazy it out.. My education had some metrology in it.. ill do it the old fashioned way.

even the Autocad drawing and rendering + CNC time would only add up to maybe 2.5 hrs:eek:

pls don't insult everyone else's intelligence with "16 hrs":bsFlag:

marstar has a leaf spring mount for sks $119 + shipping.

i have seen yours before and would like something a couple slots longer for different optics and other reasons...

why do you think your the only ones with a machine shop, know how, experience. this is not rocket science..stop making like it is... its a $5, piece of T6 or 6061 or heavens forbid some 4140 A2 D2 etc and maybe 1.5hrs work...

this isn't some car tuner board full of 16yr old kids... keep your crap in check

woah... calm down... thanks for the help though? I think I might try something as simple as electricians tape just to close the gap between the stock and the gas tube. What about choice of non-electronic close to mid range optics? All of my previous experience with firearms has either been hunting or military (and I'm not going to put an ELCAN on an SKS) so this is my first oportunity to play around personalizing this type of weapon. If the electrians tape works I'll look into a more permanent fix and if not I guess I'll consede and get the BC Tacical mount.
