So I'm going to have an XCR-M just as soon as Wolverine stars shipping and I am going to need some glass on it but I have no idea what to get.

I want something that will be good for maintaining MOA accuracy out to about 200yds. I say 'maintaining' MOA because my eyes aren't great and I find that the smaller the target gets at distance, the harder it is to hold those tight groups.

At the same time I want something that will be quick and agile in close. (I'll just be hunting and popping targets, before you ask)

I was looking at the Elcan stuff and my holy sweet jesus...

This one here looks perfect but my god is that ever SPENDY!

Anyway, are there any other companies making Elcan-ish stuff for much less?

What would you guys put on a .308 semi with a budget in and around $500?

On my xcr l I mounted the millett DMS 1.1-4x great for in close. You'd have to be the judge if 4x is enough for you out to two hundred yards on smaller targets. For an inexpensive scope I really like it,seems well made ,should stand up to 308 ok.Its what I want to put on my RFB if she ever gets here.

Another vote for Viper PST in either the 1-4 or 2.5-10. I have the 1-4 on my .223 XCR-L and I love it. It sits in one of the Vortex Branded ADM mounts. For the .308 if I wanted a little more scope I'd go for the 2.5-10 in a heartbeat.

I have a Falcon 1.5-5x30IR scope with the LP20 reticle I will be trying on the XCR-M when it arrives. I already have the scope and a Vortex ADM mount that was planned for another project.

If the Falcon scope doesn't work for me I will be looking at the Vortex line of scopes as the others have suggested.

Yeah, I was thinking the Falcon 1.5-5 would be good. The viper PST looks alright but it's only 24mm. How do you guys think it'll be in low light?

Guess the one good thing about the Viper is that it's fixed Parallax. Parallax adjustment is a pain in the ass.

So there's nothing out there similar to the Elcan for a quarter of the price?

Why not pratice with your iron sights until you saved enough money?
Isn't it a little sad to compromise a 2600$ rifle with a 500$ scope?

For 1000$ you could get yourself an Acog or an Aimpoint with a magnifier.

Did you think about your cheek weld? For MOA accuracy you'll probably need to change your stock.

Good luck.

The Falcon 1.5-5x30IR has no Parallax adjustment, it is fixed. The dial with the elevation and windage turrets is for the illuminated reticle.
Oh! Yeah! Sick, ok that might just be the ticket...

Not necessarily... I equate it to mounting something that is really well made and selling for a great price on something that is totally overpriced.

I think the XCR-M is overpriced by about $1000 and then there are companies like Vortex and Falcon (?) producing $1000 optics for $500. It kinda evens out :)

I'm not complaining about the price of the XCR-M... basic economics says it will sell for whatever the market will bear, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be produced and sold for a profit at $1700.

I have no idea what the cheek weld will be like on the XCR-M as I don't have it yet, but the weld with my Rem 700 XCR is awesome and I find I can't shoot as well at 200yds on 4x as I can on 14x.

i also have an xcr-m on order. i like the option given already but what about a leupold tactical 3x9 or something of the sorts? also was thinking more magnification possibly 14x. any other suggestions?

I have an XCR-M on order :) I am thinking about putting a Vortex Viper PST 6-24 MIL on it, and if I can find enough money hidden under the mattress, I will get the FFP. Hearing great things about these scopes. For a bit less money, might even consider the Vortex Viper PST 1-4.

If I had more money, I would definitely consider one of the Elcan's with 7.62 recticle on it.
