Optics Necessary on Rimfire?

...Irons are pretty old technology, there are much better aiming systems that make shooting more fun, however for me I get the most pleasure out of shooting my walther lgr with peep sights.

100% I'm with you on the peep sights. I've just seen soooo many new shooters who've never seen open sights, who've never seen peep sights, and are just obsessed with lining up a set of crosshairs PERFECTLY, (Probably b/c Call of Duty has taught them....) where if they just relaxed and released a good, relaxed shot, they'd be doing very well....

Unfortunately, they seem insistant on holding, and holding, and holding.... and holding............... and holding..........

Nobody can hold that long!

Teach a shooter a good, relaxed position (i.e. don't let them see every heartbeat) and that's a good place to start. And that means (to me) don't clutter it up with optics.

Optics for me. Nice to be sure of your target. Also, I'd never see what my rifle was capable of at 50 or 100 yards without them.

Peep sight is OK on a lever rifle. Guns that wear scopes well get scopes.

If you can consistently hit what you're shooting at with iron sights, there is no need for the complication of a scope.
I saw one talented beginning shooters out in the gopher patch prefer a simple .22 single shot to more accurate scoped .22 LRs, .22 mags, etc. Didn't expect that. Out to 50 yards, he was hitting consistently and could reload very quickly with a handful of cartridges. After graduating him to a better gun, he switched back to that old FN single shot.
On the other hand, I scope almost all of my guns, unless I have a reason not to. It really is a preference thing. For myself, I prefer a scope on a .22 for head shooting grouse and longer shots of gophers.
