Hi folks!
I need your advice…Looking for a good optic to put on my M14… I will not use this rifle for long distance shooting, only for 200-300 yards max.

Low-medium budget scope around 300$ to 650$...with a magnification of around 1-4x20 or 1-4x20...Let me know your suggestion!
Thanks!

I would wager that if you use a Vortex on a scope-smasher such as the M14/M305, you'll eventually be taking advantage of their 'warranty'.

I had to return two Vortex scopes for warranty repair - a PST and a Razor HD - after minimal use on .223's. The best warranty is one you never have to use! :)

Nikon has a full lifetime warranty with three Canadian service locations. It'll be fine on your gun. :)

Thanks! Just checked Nikon optic site... the monarch 3 1-4x20 german#4 and it's really nice!!! ...available for only 310$ at P&D ent. At that price, with lifetime warranty....boffff can't go wrong with that!!

Vortex's warranty is much better. If you accidentally drop it or anything they will replace. Nikon is only manufacture defect and not on electronic parts (illuminated reticle etc).

good to know...The Vortex PST 1-4x24 is about twice the price... 599$ P&D ent. or Wolverine Supplies...I guess you have the quality of what you paid for...tuff decision....

Good warranties are great but THERE IS NO FREE LUNCH; in order to exist and make a profit at the end of the day the manufacturer has to load warranty costs into the price .. the more generous the warranty ... the more expensive the product (something like Leupold) OR they reduce cost on production ... eg build a cheaper product - end result is the same. Personally I am happy with a better product covered by manufacturers defect warranty. I personally dont want to pay extra to cover some screw up who drives his jeep over his rifle or uses his scope for a hammer to put up the curtains ...

Vortex PST 1-4x24 is a good scope, try to find a used one and you'll notice that resale value is pretty high. Clear glass, good turrets, zero-stop.

I'd be more concerned about mount for M14. ;)

Wait for sale if in doubt.

Appreciate the conversation, couple of quick points. We do cover the electronics but only for two years as unfortunately we are all aware electronics are not designed/ built to hold up to long term outdoor use. As for manufacturer's defect you are correct on this and as someone very eloquently put it above I'd double down on that statement. However please be aware that Nikon Canada is more than happy to try and accommodate users who may have had a non-intentional/ non-abused item as best we can. I know a few CGN'ers have reached out to me via PM and we've done our best to make them happy. I can't speak for Vortex as that's their company policy and I work for Nikon. All the best and happy hunting!

The best budget scope that I know of that will survive a good wallop is the Bushnell Elite. My Elite is a 3-9x40 on a Mosin Nagant firing 203 grain bullets. So far I have put 100+ rounds through it and it is still going strong.

I cannot speak for the M14 but the Mosin has a very violent recoil and it did break a lesser version of the Elite called the Elite 3200. Bushnell replaced the 3200 on the spot with the upgraded Elite.

Bushnell scopes go on sale so they can be bought for a very reasonable price......A Bushnell Elite 4-16x40 regular price can be had for under $500.....Bushnell scopes can be hard to zero but once there they are very solid.
