I pre ordered a gsg16 and am looking forward to getting it. I know I’ll want to put an optic on it and was wondering what might be a good choice without breaking the bank. Can I put AR style ACOG sights on it? I was looking at a Burris AR332 CQ reticle sight, would that be a good choice? Alternatives?

You certainly could mount an ACOG type sight on it, there are also many AR-22 type optics offering .22 BDC reticles ( Burris comes to mind), but realistically if you are just plinking with it any red dot will do the job. I guess it all depends on what range you plan on shooting at on a regular basis, cqb distances don't really need more than a red dot, if you want to stretch it out farther than that then an AR-22 scope might be the way to go. My buddy has been running a GSG15 in speed steel for a couple of years with a cheap $80 Chinese holosight( eBay) and it has held up no problem to the .22 recoil and is surprisingly accurate

I'm thinking a Bushnell TRS 26 for mine. 3 moa dot and 50 000 hours of battery life for under $200. Reviews seem pretty good on them.

That looks good but I wouldn’t mind a little magnification for longer shots. By the time I put a magnifier on it the price might be near what the Burris AR332 would be. From what I’ve been reading the AR332 can be used as a red dot at close range by closing the front scope cover, shooting with both eyes open and letting the illuminated reticle superimpose on the target image from the dominant eye. Now, I’m a total noob when it comes to optics (and firearms generally) but that sound like it would be useful for some long range target shooting and close range quicker target acquisition.

Edit: again, please do correct me if I’m wrong.

I wouldn’t mind some flexibility in the range. Outdoors at some distance for accurate target shooting and indoors we have a 25M range with mobile targets etc. The BDC on the reticle for a different caliber could be recalculated no? The only reason I’m considering the AR332 right now is that it comes with a free Burris Fast Fire 3 red dot that I could use on my Shadow 9mm OR handgun.

The Burris is a good deal with the Fast Fire for sure, I looked at that deal myself. I bought the Primary Arms 3x prism scope instead simply because the ACSS reticule peaked my interest and they were on sale at CTCS, who just happen to sponsor our DSSMATCH shoots, so I threw them some business. I shot it yesterday for the first time and I gotta say I absolutely love it. Even at close range/cqb distances it was easy as hell to pick up the target, something I was worried about with the fixed 3x magnification, but it doesn't seem to be an issue at all, and my old tired eyes appreciate the magnification for longer ranges. The Burris gets good reviews, and you don't have to close the front lens cap to use them at close quarters as a red dot, works perfectly without doing that. Good luck in choosing what works for you, I'm sure you will enjoy the Burris, but have a look at the Primary Arms and the Vortex also, many vids on YouTube,,,although it is hard to beat the free Fast Fire :)

I ordered the Burris AR332 from Dante Sports. It has a CQB reticle that will hopefully act as a red dot close up and hopefully work for some more distant shots, I can recalculate the bullet drop marks for use with .22 ammunition. The free Fastfire III should work well for my Shadow 2 as it’s a little lighter than the Venom and should help with any potential cycling issues. Thanks everyone.

I only plan to use this for 25-30 yard plinking and such. For longer ranges, I have a Savage BSEV with a Bushnell Elite.
