Hello All;

I have been looking at the Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag Turkey/Deer combo. This gun shoulders well for me and the combo fills the void in my hunting collection - I have an 870 Express Supermag for my waterfowling. In the combo, there is a rifled barrel with a cantilever mount for a scope. I plan on putting on a Bushnell Trophy 1.75 - 4x scope for deer. I can't remember if the receiver is tapped and drilled to allow me to mount the same scope with the turkey barrel. First, does anyone know offhand whether the scope can be mounted on the turkey setup. Second, do you think that this system (gun and optics) will be suitable/effective for both deer and turkey.

Thank you very much in advance for your thoughts.

You only want low power optics on a deer or turkey shotgun. One thing that is handy is a wide angle scope for movement . I use a scope set on 3 power of turkey and it works great for me.

I would say your choice in a scope is fine...

leave the scope on the rifled barrel and use the sights on the turkey barrel. less screwing around with the scope and I don't even see the need to have a scope on a turkey gun. Front bead work good for me, havn't missed yet :)

Thanks a lot for the info and suggestions. I mounted the scope to the deer barrel and am going to leave the turkey setup "naked". I like the fibre optic sights on the turkey barrel. I like the gun a lot - just picked it up last week and put a few rounds through it. It seems to kick a bit more than the 870, but still very manageable.
