Does anyone have a recommendation for rings other than optilocks to mount an 85? I've been getting lots of mixed opinions on them and just wanted to see if there was a better option out there.
 
i got rid of my horrible optilocks and put talley bases and rings i like them i think i had them shipped by prophet river
 
Leupold make a set of rings that fit the Sako dovetail... very compact and solid. I have always preferred them...
 
I own several 85s and have never had problems with the Optilocks. Aside from my personal collection of Sako rifles, I have assembled several other 85s for buddies and all with Optilocks. The trick is getting the lowest mounts possible. For scopes with a long main tube, I really like the one piece ring and base.

I used the Leupold mounts once. Took them off within a few minutes and went back to Optilocks. The problem with the Leupold mounts is getting the forward mount centred.

Another option is a NEAR Rail. I have only used NEAR rails on HS and Remington rifles. Although I hear good things about the NEAR Sako rail, I can't get my head around the friction fit aspect.

I put a NEAR rail on 2 of my sako rifles just so I could swap scopes easier . I have owned several Sakos and have mainly used optilocks with no problems . I did try one set of leupold ring mounts and they didn't fit with the scope I had .

By the way , the NEAR rail is friction fit with the recoil lug the same as the optilocks
