I'm looking to mount a scope on my old man's old Tikka M65 7mm mag as a gift. I picked up a used set of optilock rings and bases for a good deal and they almost look like they'll fit... The front base has a recoil pin in it, but the dovetail on the receiver won't accommodate it. The receiver has 2 tapped holes front and rear, I'm guessing to bolt bases to. The way I see it is to either drill out the receiver to accept the pin, or knock out the pin. I'd rather not drill out the gun, to keep it all stock. Would the bases hold well enough without the pin? As then there is no positive engagement with the receiver, and it would be relying solely on friction.

I've read that the sako optilocks fit the sako tapered dovetail while the tikka's dovetail is parallel . I don't know if thats true but maybe worth investigating. Another option for the M65 is T3 bases. The fit perfectly with the drilled and tapped holes. I'm using talley extra low lightweights with a 44mm bell on mine and they it perfectly. Solves your ring and base problem for about $70
As a reference I mounted a bushnell lrhs and with the talleys turned to have maximum spread between the rings I had plenty of eye relief. Dimensions of the scope should be online somewhere. If not I can measure later tonight if it helps.
the original Tikka rings for the M65 had threaded holes in the 'face' of the rings .. and usually one large 'panhead' screw was provided for these holes ... the head of the 'panhead' screw protruded just below the base of the ring and acted as a recoil stop on the front ring when installed

The front ring mounting screw head functions as an index pin and recoil stop pin, as it rests on the receiver; simple but very functional. I replaced Optilocks with this on my Tikka M55 (obviously their M55 version.) They are solid, easy to use, and hold and return to zero on remount.
