And yes I ran a search ;) . I will be running this through a Polish M44.

-I see the Igman @ Districorp but have heard it is so-so for accuracy + it is only 150gn (think Moose hunting ;) )

-Winchester seems unavailable in Canada

-Same with Wolf

-Norma has a 180gr SP listed on their web site. Who stocks it? This seems to be the only 'high end' option.

I know, I know, reload  . Maybe I will if I can get enough Norma brass

Also,

What is your favourite (in stock now) milsurp ammo? Seems the choices are between the Districorp Hungarian and the Marstar Czech. Now no need to get in 'the great debate" over this :D.

I've been recommending this to alot of shooters, take the surplus ammo(but it's gotta be decent stuff to begin with), you pull the bullet tip, weight it, and replace it with a hunting tip, do that with 20-30 rounds, weigh the powder charge, average out the weight, and you'll have an accurate load for hunting at a fraction of the price.

Good call. I will do that if it comes to it. Although, If I can find some Norma, I will probably reload from scratch + it will be non-corrosive.

Thanks

The Igman is fine for reloading. I have been experimenting with 123 PSP and 150 grain FMJ loads for my M44 using Igman factory brass. The Igman factory 150 SP shoots just fine as well but I can reload better.

What IDPA said all the way! The beauty is, even though it's berdan primed, all you need is a bullet. Nosler partition work the charm as I was told. Your bullet diameter is .311, but I was told that 308 work just fine with no noticeable loss of accuracy.

Take a look around for 7.62mmX54R spire point hunting ammo imported by Bell Distributors. Lots around here and it seems as if the current bullets being loaded perform much better than stuff from 5-6 years ago. (Had a case where 6.5X55 Swede soft point ammo wasn't expanding on Caribou and were acting like solids!) Tried some of the new Bell on wet newsprint and it seems to be expanding more than adequately.

I took several deer with bell 7.62X54r, good expansion. I now reload though, I use norma, and lapua brass, and hornday interlock 150grain .312" bullets.... deadly on anything out here(mostly deer).

The Bell brass cleans up pretty good, have been trying 180 Grain .311 Pro Hunters lately. They group nice, haven't actually used them to hunt with but have heard nothing but good things about them.
JD, where are you getting the Norma and Lapua brass? I'd love to get some.

Thanks guys. Lot's of good help here ;) .

I think I will try some of the Bell as my local shop (A. Simmons) has lot's of bell in stock (and hopefully 7.62x54r). I have been a bit hesitant on using the Bell though as when he first started to stock it, I had some issues with dud rounds (aboot 50% NFG) in some of the .270 I bought. Hopefully it was just a bad batch or Bell has worked out any bugs that may have been present.

Thanks again guys.

Well I did get the norma brass from factory rounds(private sale), and the lapua from hirschprecision.com. I got decent accuracy on the bell ammo, and no failures, or anything strange hapening. Although all mine were berdan primed @#$#@. maby the primers that they used were to hard for your 270?

MAcdonald Sporting goods in Portage La Prairie Maniotba was selling Sellier and Bellot 7.62 x 54 180 grain ammunition. I fired some out of my M44 and found it to be very accurate. I only have open sights, so I only fired out to 100 yards, groups were about 2 inches. I'm sure if you do a Canada 411 search, you can find their number. I had three boxes, but I sold one to Ollie, and I fired most of one. Have one left, and no, you can't have it.:D
