Options for a .260 or 6.5X55?

The venerable 6.5x55mm...
Love it!
Once upon a time about 20 years ago, a friend let me shoot his Win M70 fw 6.5x55mm. Was so impressed I 'needed' to get a sporter in 6.5x55mm as soon as. Couldn't find anything so ended up getting a M96 Swede short rifle bubba'd into a sporter. 'Course never did measure up to buddy's M70.
Then I saw Lever Arms outta Vancouver B.C. eventually was selling spankin' new Ruger M77 mkII's in it. So, I managed to score one. Shot like a house on fire right outta the box. Only sold it after I acquired a Tikka 695 stainless synthetic [btw, which I still have] in it. Still miss that Ruger:

Later scored a nice Rem 700 Classic in 6.5x55mm:
Only parted with the Rem Classic when finally managed to acquire my 'holy grail' of 6.5x55's the elusive Win 70 featherweight.
Actually, wish I'd kept 'em all.

I have a Tikka T3 Hunter in 6.5 Swede, thing is great, reasonable weight, stupidly accurate, even pretty good looking.
These were shot with handloads I made up working up loads, didn't really matter what the charge was, I spent no time playing with seating depth, just SAMMI OAL.

I have a 700 "Classic" in 6.5x55. It is on it's 3rd barrel, so you know it gets shot a lot.
Simply a rifle to love. Very effective in the field as well.
I own a 260 in a 700 BDL. As Doug already stated, any difference between the two is purely academic.
Had a Winchester M70 FW in 6.5x55, but would have had to rebarrel to get it to shoot, so I sold it.
[I don't have a problem with rebarrelling a worn out tube, but a new one should shoot better than 3moa]
I also had a Ruger 77 Mk II 6.5x55 a while ago, and it was very accurate. Got talked out of it by a friend, though.
I would simply choose the rifle I liked best in either chambering.

The last time I was at Bashaw Sports they had two Winchester 1885 Low Wall in 6.5x55mm, when I left they only had one.

My t3 lite in 6.5 isn't pretty or ugly... But it shoots amazing and is a beautiful little rifle to carry a while. It's a never sell gun for me, I'll pass it on one day to someone that will appreciate it.
