As the title says. I'm not looking for anything fancy, but don't want total junk either. Just something that is good for 50-100 yards.

Thanks.

Because I like to practice long(ish) range with open / iron sights. Makes seeing shot placement easier. So far I'm just using a cheap rifle scope as a spotting scope.

I'm considering this as well. At the distances you're mentioning, have you considered a set of binoculars? Broader range of uses than a spotting scope & could be argued as a shrewder purchase. Failing that, sounds like your criteria are similar to mine - not in the market for a Swarovski but don't want to just throw my money away either. I'm toying with the Bushnell Trophy XLT with maybe an upgrade to the tripod (reviews point out the stock tripod is a bit dodgy).

I never considered binoculars. The reason behind the spotting scope idea is that I can set it on the target and would just need to lean in to see my shot.

Bino's are great out to a hundred yards for spotting small holes in targets. Quick and easy to get on target as well.

Some of the newer go pro type camera's have short range wireless connectivity to smart phones as well....... cool option if you happen to have or have access to the gear. You could hide the camera down range near the target and record and view your shots on your phone.
