Options for a burnt out .243

I would clean the hell out of the barrel and make sure I use a proven scope with tight mounts and try again. If it still sucks, it's easy to fit a new barrel on.
Another good trick, is to get someone else to shoot it without giving them any hint of the issue you're having with it. I'm not sure what your standards are for this rifle or how many rounds per group, how quickly you're shooting, or which ammo.

What grain bullet?
I had a Remington 700 Varmint in 243 that shot best with 100grn Blue Box Federals.
Nosler Particians shot about 2inch @100 .
Suffice to say I stuck with the 100grn Blue box stuff.
How it works out and is not an expensive venture.
Tight Groups,

I shot about 4 rounds of factory 100 gr winchester to get it on paper. Then I was trying to do load testing with assorted loads of varget. My targets were on printer paper and I couldn't get them to group or even stay on the paper. I'm guessing it was shooting about an 8" pattern. Bullets were not keyholing. It was hot out and I was trying to let it cool between groups. Ill try it again, but I'll be shocked if it will group.
