Hi Guys I'm looking into purchasing my first handgun this month. Im interested in the new production Zastava m57, the reviews are good and the ammo is cheap. What do you guys think of the m57 and what are other options for about 600-800$ max.

Thanks

M57 = $330 or less, buy one for fun, i will be buying one soon, girsan gets good reviews and cheap, personally I go a Walther ppx, kit, and did my holster course with it, I am a lefty and used it right handed due to the holster that came with it, ( passed anyway, mostly due to the awesome trigger) will be selling it though as I got a shadow 1 to try out and a couple milsurp so something gotta go, and the holster is as I said for a right hander! $300 ish bucks isn't the end of the world if you don't like the M57, you can always sell it if you don't wanna keep it!

I've got a TT33 in 7.62x25, so essentially the same as the M57. They're not bad guns in any way, grip is a little on the short side.
I'd suggest looking at the S&W SVDE 9mm, it's only $70 more than the Zastava. With the Apex trigger and spring kit they're pretty good for the price point.

M57 has the longer grip if I recall vs a tt-33

9 shots is always better than 8 imo ;) I just wonder why nobody pump out the m57 or tt-33 10 rounds mags? Is it doable? Btw, I heard you can change the m57 grip into a thicker one and I heard ppl said it is a better grip. I wanna get one later... m57 or P762
Would be nice, a 10 round mag with the base moulded to blend with the grip! Probably not enough volume for them to produce! From what I read the M57 is the most modernized version of the tt, hence the extra round and some improvements inside I think!
About the doable,,, I have a 15 round mag for my 1911 .45!!! Sadly still pinned to 10, hangs out the bottom of the grip like the poor 1911 is trying to give birth!! :):)

Right now you can get lightly used M&P's for $500 more or less on the EE. The Gen1's are good guns and will serve you well. I would also chase a used Gen 3 Glock 17, or CZ75B of you can for around the $600 mark. All would be a better buy than the M57. You get a decent 9MM with less recoil ie more pleasant to shoot. Too, the guns can be used to play IPSC,IDPA, 3Gun or ASC if you go that route later on. Banging away with a gun with crappy sights, rough trigger and a snappy round gets old quick. Just saying.

Take Care

^ My thoughts as well. Lots of better choices within your budget in both steel and polymer guns.

If the OP is set on the Tokerav design, which is nothing wrong with that because it is very iconic and has a lot of history, the Zastava 70a in 9mm is ideal. They use to be in the low $200s brand new and now they are in the low $300s assuming you could find one.

If the OP just wants all steel 9mm, the options open up. Leading the pack (IMHO) is the Norinco NP29. It is a faithful copy of the 1911 and the parts are interchangable with other 1911s. The NP22 is a Sig copy and is well executed but parts may not be interchangable. The sleeper might be the NZ85, a CZ85 copy. For a metal gun, Norincos are pretty hard to beat because of their price point. I own all of these, including the 70a and I can tell you that the best bang for the buck are the Norincos. You could still buy any one of these for $340 (which includes shipping and taxes) to your door. Even the less expensive polymer gun, which is cheaper to manufacture can't come close to these prices. A S&W SDVE is $399, add the taxes and delivery and the gun is twice as much. Just saying.

On the used market, new Norc's are still pretty hard to beat. I think what comes close price wise is the Star model B or the Llama 1911 clone in 9mm but parts are difficult to come by and in the end they are more expensive than a new Norc. If you want to go polymer the safest bet is the M&P 2.0. but if it was up to me I would get something a bit different such as a Styer.

I have expensive handguns which for the most part are safe queens. For some reason, I run the copy's hard and with no regret.

I just sold my nz85 tonight lol. I bought it a few months back then picked up a cz75b so didn't need both

The Zastava pistols seem like TT-33 pistols, but they use a proprietary firing pin system quite unlike the TT's. No shop that I know of carries any Zastava pistol spares...it takes a half a year for parts to arrive from the importer. Ask me how I know!.
At least the Chinese TT's will take parts from the Russian TT's... although these are also difficult to find.
I like the TT-33 and it's clones a lot...I just don't like to have a broken pistol in my safe I can't buy parts for.

For your first HG.....I agree with both Canuck44 and sailor723.

You can't go wrong with the choices simply for parts and accessories.....

Don't bother with the Zastava.
Tenda just released tons of surplus pistols like the Beretta M51, Beretta 92S, CZ85, CZ85B, CZ75, Browning High-Power and FN MK3. You have a lot of choices, much better than the ZastavaM57. Prices are very reasonable.
