I am evaluating my options for a "heirloom quality" hunting rifle made of high-grade walnut to hand down to my sons. What else is out there aside from Blaser in the realm of mere mortals (Holland & Holland sadly out of my price range)?

I know Blaser and H&H but what else is out there? I've been more of a black rifle and handgun guy until now.

I picked up a nice Sauer 404 Elegance on this site a few years back . Beautiful grade 5 walnut.

I mounted a Swarovski z6i 2.5-15x56 on it and love how it shoots and how it looks. It will be in the family for generations.

It goes hunting with me on most of my trips too, so it's not a safe queen.

All in with the rifle, scope mount and scope < 8K

Budget not set in stone but I figure I probably have to top out at around 10k on the gun. Maybe a little more or a little less. I'm about to binge on gun stuff but have to figure out exact split between this and precision rifles. And yes, I do want to actually take it hunting. I don't think something that just sits in a cabinet has the same value as something that gets used. A big part of it are the memories and stories that go along with it.

Well at that price you have a lot of options!! Blazer, Steyr, Heim, Mauser and the list is quite long!!

Ralf Martini in Cranbrook BC is your man.

Yes indeed, go to his site and browse around and you will find
Something!!
Check out Bradshaw guns and rifles, I just stumble onto his site a few days ago and man if I have the money you had I would go with that guy or martini!

Go check out the Kimber in the Rim-fire section of the EE.
French Walnut....
That is just a starting point.

Some interesting ideas here. Martini seems out of my range at 20k usd. I don’t really understand the whole single shot thing to be honest either… Definitely want a bolt action.

At that budget could you get a stock carved from a blank? Action and barrel of your choice?

Lots of talented gunsmiths in Canada

Noticed you said "sons" in OP...might be a good idea to go 5 G each on a couple of rifles...If you purchase just one rifle to hand down one of them is going to be left out when the real value of the rifle is "noticed".

Cooper contact Prophet River

Many options depending on how deep your pockets are.

I did this a few years ago with Cooper Firearms. If you want something to hand down that has a personalized serial number (last name?) and whatever options you want, virtually any calibre, skelontonized butt plate, grip cap.....it would be one of a kind and honestly the price, I feel anyway, is quite fair. I think I paid about $4,500 all said and done and got exactly what I wanted. And Prophet River, as always, was great to deal with.
