Options for new .223 Varminter

I've been looking at these too, and I'm a bit confused.

In .223, which Rem 700's have the 1:9 twist and 20" heavy barrel, with kevlar stock?

Need a price check and who carries them?

thanks.

May have found the answer, 700P Standard, The standard Model 700P features an H-S Precision® composite stock reinforced with Du Pont Kevlar and fiberglass.

Wanted to post an update, it may be of value to some ...

I just took back my third Rem 700 PSS .223 because they all suffered from oversized firing pin holes in the bolt face. They are very nice rifles and shoot well, but the primers crater regardless of load and it's not easy to tell how hot your load is. Check out my thread on this at:

I bit the bullet and traded it up to the Tikka Tactical. I would have preferred to stay with the Rem because it is open to customizing, but after going through Wholesale Sports' entire inventory of these rifles, all had the bad bolts. I've also corresponded with a couple of guys in the Ottawa area who've had the same problem. Wholesale has sent the rifles to the Remington repair centre in Canada and expect them to be repaired and back in inventory several months from now, too long to wait. Have to say that Wholesale treated me pretty well with all the exchanges & paperwork.

Now it's time to work on some new loads for the Tikka, the lands are even farther out than in the Remington, but I've heard that Tikkas shoot okay with factory length cartridges.

I have a Savage 10 FP, consistenty shoots 1/4-1/2 MOA. Just bought a LRPV, have not found a decent load yet but it shows some promise.

I concur with the Savage, get an LRPV if you can find one. My buddy has a Rem LTR. While they are really nice rifles I prefer the longer (24" vs 20") Stainless barrel on the Savage

Try 68grn Hornady HPBT Match with 24 grs of Varget and a CCI 450 primer in a Win case, works great in mine. These are the older 68grn bullets in the light cardboard box with the metal corners I am using right now. They are quite a bit shorter and seem to have a shorter bearing surface than the new ones in the heavy cardboard boxes.
I hope this same load works with the newer longer 68grn bullets or I have to start all over again.

Already got a Mini-14 that is okay for messing around, this is intended to be a serious long-distance shooter.

The Tikka is a compromise - I wanted the Remington for the 26" barrel and ability to customize, but I couldn't get one that wasn't defective in a reasonable timeframe. Too bad Hungry posted his wife's rifle after I did the deal. I have experience with both Tikka and Savage, would have looked at the Savage if they had one, but remember I was exchanging product, not buying new, so stuck with WSS, and I didn't want to wait. Plus, I like the 1:8" twist rate.

So many options, so little free cash!
