Given that ARs are restricted, what options does one have to choose a rifle in 6.5 Grendel that is not restricted?
I heard opinions that 6.8 SPC would be superior, so do not exclude it from your recommendations.

Ideally I would have liked one in 6.5 Creedmoor, but such thing is hard to come by.

As mentioned: XCR is the only one I know of that'll do 6.8 out of the box.

That being said: if you're willing to put in the time and money, I'm sure a conversion could be done on other NR rifles.

Short of a custom build, an XCR-L in 6.8 SPC is the only option I'm aware of.

If you're looking at a custom built NR black rifle and have a large budget, the sky is the limit. Something like a NR Swiss Arms carbine in 6.8 would be interesting.

The Grendel is a custom proposition, I'm not aware of any out of the box rifles chambered in that caliber. There's the XCR and the Mini 14 in 6.8 SPC. - Oh, and I think the ACR is available in 6.8

I do recall Ruger Mini 14 also comes in 6.8 SPC.

Dang, enefgee beat me to it while I was busy confirming the caliber on Ruger's website :(

Well, thank you for your suggestions. I guess I'll move this somewhere else. Where people like grendels.....

I think it's not so much an issue of not liking the 6.5 as much as there are no non-restricted black rifles in 6.5 on the Canadian market.

I would be interested in one as well, closest I saw was an ACR 6.5 conversion, however the manufacturer was not interested in getting approval to export.

There is that XCR in 6.8 but I owned a 5.56 XCR and didn't like it enough to buy another. Although I'm no expert I think the 6.5 is the better round as well. If something should come to market in either caliber (other than the XCR) I would look at it hard as a deer rifle.

As noted, a lot of things are 'doable'...just depends on how much you want it and how much you're willing to spend.
I've had Ian at Herron Arms do a 6.5Grendel conversion on an AR180B...barrel swap...machine out the bolt face...source some 6.5Grendel magazines...Presto!
He also made up a 6.5Grendel barrel for my XCR....new barrel...need a 'donor' barrel for receiver extention and gas system...uses a 7.62X39 bolt...same magazines...Presto!
This was a couple of years ago, and he was able to procure 6.5Grendel mags, but the 7.62X39 magazines seem to work as well.
He also obtained a case of Wolf factory 6.5Grendel ammunition, but you can also get the brass (Lapua) and make up your own loads.
As noted....just depends on how far you're willing to go.....

There is a guy on ACR forums that makes 6.5 Grendel bolts for the ACR. All of the other required components can be ordered from Bushmaster or Gravel Agency. Bit of work but would be well worth it.

Get yourself a 6.8 SPC XCR and call it a day. You might be able to piece together a 6.5 or 6.8 from another manufacturer, but how much is your time and energy worth? Wolverine has an XCR in stock right now that can have you shooting in the next couple of weeks.
