Hi guys. wanting to set up a somewhat authentic early 70's AR(M16) with a fixed carrying handle, M203 compatible upper.
Because of age, would like some form of optics but don't want to deviate too much from period authenticity.
Would appreciate suggestions on mounts and types of sights available.

There was a Colt 3x20 (and a 4x20 I believe) optic that fit the carry handle from that period. It mounted throught the hole in the carry handle with a wing nut.

If you want an optic buy a flat top upper receiver. Why #### around with mounting a scope 4" over the bore.

well the old colt is my father in-laws. He has a flat top on his alberta tactical AR that he uses for CQB and Rifle matches. The purpose of mounting the optics on the old colt is due to his rapid decay. haha. His eye site is not the greatest. He would like to use the AR as it is with the m203 on it but he needs the optics to see the targets. I know where you are coming from. any other tips will help. thanks

Swan makes a mount for the handle, there is the Colt 3x or 4x there's also the first 'red dot' sight for this generation of AR's - the Armson OEG. Actually very quick, and not really a scope, more of a sight. Kind of gives it a 'Son Tay Raid' look.
