Just wanted to get some ideas of off you all about what type/brand of scope to use and base mount. I'm picking up a Rem 700 SPS Tac in .308. I may use it once in a while for hunting, but it will be mostly used for target shooting. The distance will be anywhere from 100 to 500m or so.

I just put a Countersniper 4-16x42 with their titanium rings on my SPS varmint, and thus far, it's fantastic, although my range only goes out to 400m. It all depends on how much you want to spend. Horus Vision makes some great scopes with a pretty cool reticule, or you can go with the classics like Nightforce or Leupold, but they're pricey.

Farrel 20moa two peice weaver base and leupold scope. Depends what you like and how you want it to fit. 4-14X40 leupold would fit that rifle quite nice, and be good for 500yd shots.

Take a look at the Sightron scopes. I've got one on order. People who have them like them.

I've got a Ken Farrel base on my 700. The quality is great. I bedded it as per the instructions and couldn't be more pleased, they are quite high though, that needs to be taken into consideration when ordering rings.

Why would you want a 20moa base for 500 yard shooting?

You probably don't need it but the quality of the bases is top notch. If you ever decide to go farther, you're ready to go!

I agree,once you see how much fun it is to hit at 500,you want to stretch it out farther!I do have alot of adjustment in my 30mm leupold,and haven't needed angled bases for 800 meter shooting.

Warne maxima 2peice steel weaver are also and excellent base for a rem 700. They are a little cheaper too. I like to stay away from aluminum if possible.

Warne base, Badger rings, Leupold Mk4 scope. I have this on a TRG-22 (.308).
On my 700, unknown base (picatinny), Leupold Mk4 rings, Leupold VX-III.
Very statisfied with both setup!

Thank you for the replies. I'm still looking around as I'm undecided. I may just wait until I'm out of the sandbox and can actually hold and look at some.
