Ora cqb 2018

thanks to the CQB shooters that attended the ORA AGM yesterday. ORA council had some more discussion and I'm working on the CQB budget now. ORA council needs to finalize some figures.
It looks like it will need to increase the entry fee to $25 per match or get more people to come out and shoot to keep the match fee downs.

Based on last year's participation we have 28 people at each match on the average. Of course there are more at the championship but we also have an extra fee to cover catered lunch.

Being that this is the 150th year the ORA is in exististance I'm planning to increase the number of awards at the championship so we can use the fancy 150 logo as much as possible. If you know any businesses that want to sponsor our events either by donations or awards, prizes, swag, or cash, please start reaching out to them and let me know what they are able to support us with.

Thanks,
DINK

I agree with Ganderite about Red Dots on Pistols. I personally would like to use one in CQB as my eyes are getting kinda tired..., also I compete in another Championship at Milcun " Operational Pistol Championship" and they allow Red Dots, so would like to be competing with the same Equipment each time I go out to shoot. Of course I am just one person, but it is interesting that they had some feedback from potential shooters regarding it was not fair to use a Red Dot as it had an advantage. However the overall winner in 2017 was Iron Sights, and in fact a lot of the top shooters used Iron sights. Just something to think about.

I think the 22lr thing will be minor. We have to police what ever we find any way, its more that I want to continue to not score shooters using 22lr same as we've always done.
The problem that's come up is that the ORA is now asking for a written rule book and I want to make it as short and simple as possible, so all the "rules" we've had need to be formalized and written down.

Ganderite,
My concern with red dots is that it will be an equipment race. I concur with your assessment "for the pistol optics, I find a red dot more accurate than irons - mostly because my old eyes don't see open sights very well" my younger eyes are not the best and I find a red dot easier to use so if one of us is using a red dot we have an advantage, and if neither of us have, or both of us have red dots; we're back to youth vs experience. My goal is to keep the playing field level. This is why I was considering classes so anyone using red dots would shot against one another and iron sights would be against one another. Then is just a matter of skill/experience(age) not disparate equipment. Dividing the field into classes does not seem like a popular option.

With regards to power factor, I prefer we maintain a gentleman's agreement, and like Bugout says when the round bounce of the backer its time to check loads. However, for consistency I think we need to set a rule, then everyone has a known standard to work from. Enforcement could be a problem but I'm involved in other sports that check loads. Its a pain in the butt, but a rare pain, and no one every wants to be DQ'd for something that dumb.

For pistol I think a 125 power factor is probably a reasonable minimum, it is also common to many other shooting sports.
For rifle I think a 150 power factor again is a reasonable minimum, and common to other sports.

Would the ARs with those little 7 1/2" fireball barrels get enough velocity to get 150?

I'm all for RDS on pistols. I think it the way of the future for operational use, just like optical sights on rifles.

I'd prefer to have a separate class for them but I shoot irons against RDS pistols at Nationals now so.....meh.

Let the shooters who have RDS pistols use them. Shooters still have to have the skill to break the shot cleanly to get the hits regardless of sights.

Version 1.0 ofThe Rulebook is ready for public consumption.
This is not meant to burden our participants. It is mostly just writing down what we've been doing, in some cases for years. There are some items that I have added to keep people from getting "gamey" (power factor), or to keep us in line with the DCRA Service Conditions rules (trigger pull weight).

Thanks for your work and dedication Dink27. Please don't pull your beard out in frustration over cancelled matches:).

Agreed! I hope to participate in most of the matches this year but if it comes down to needing volunteers instead of shooters just let me known, I am more than happy to help out

Thanks Dink, not your fault but it sure sucks. And still no communications from the ORA council regarding range availability for this season, shame on them!! (I'm a long term ORA member BTW).
