ORA CQB match 5 went off yesterday without a hitch. 60 shooters came out to enjoy the fine summer weather (finally we get some summer back in southern Ontario) and compete in this challenging and fun course of fire. Big thanks to Ganderite for the photos of the event. As you can see, everybody is all smiles. I was cool to see some shooting trying out firearms that were interesting if not particularly suited to the CQB game (a Luger?!?!? a Revover?!?!?!). Pretty neat none the less. Pretty much all of us drooled over the Luger a bit.

As staff for the event I appreciate everybody's cooperation to make the event run smooth and to pitch in for duties to setup and tear down. Now I am really looking forward to get back to shooting this event. For me personally it has been TOO long.

What a great day! Good guys and gals having fun in perfect weather.

I have decided to shoot a different rifle in each CQB this year. First was an AR, then a M14 and today was a SKS. A commercial Norinco I bought 30 years ago for $100. Considering inflation, they are cheaper today...

I loaded it from stripper clips. Not nearly as fast as an AR15, but it went better than I expected. I used a file to open up the stripper clip slot on the bolt, so it was easier to get the clips in place. The open sight was replaced with a peep, made from part of a Lee Enfield L sight.

The clips were carried point down across the top of my mag pouch. This worked well.

My pistol is also a Norinco. A 1911 in 7.62x25. Like shooting a BB gun.

A short video of the SKS in action:

My SKS was absolutely modern compared to Richard's pistol, a 1913 Luger.

Got some more info on the Luger from the Luger Forum. It's a WWII Luftwaffe lower, with a WWI 1913 upper. It was capture by the Russians, and later imported to NA, likely the US first some time in the late 50's.

Had a couple of live round stove piping, might be the mag. It's also shooting 6" to the left at 20 yards. Even so I managed two 5 head shots.

Great day. Unlike the last CQB, my Cz 858 fired flawlessly. Now I need work on getting my aim...

Thanks for the pic Jim.

Great day, great fun, great people. Perfect conditions to spend my 29th birthday today. Ganderite, you are one sneaky dood. Didn't even notice you taking a picture while I was shooting, lol. This stuff just keeps getting better and better.

Happy Birthday! May you have may more decades of CQB!

Looks like a good time. Can anyone identify the sight mount in the 14 th photo from the bottom. The photo is of a gentleman holding a Vz-58 with a reflex sight mounted over the front hand guard. I would like to know where this mount came from as I have been unable to find one for a short barrelled Vz-58.

I shoot these matches with a little key fob video camera velcroed to my hat brim. When I get home I can watch myself shoot each match and make notes of things to work on. twice now I have noted that If I fail to check that a mag is properly seated it might not be. When a round does not feed, or the mag falls out, scores take a beating. In one of these videos you can see my pistol mag was not seated.
