Good showing today folks. 30 brave individuals came out to compete and had a most excellent day. Special thanks to Tim, Dave, Pat, Fran, and Sandy for all of their hard work to make the match run.

Why do we shoot CQB?

I think it is for the shower, after the match. Either to warm up our frozen fingers and chattering teeth, or to wash of the sweat and dirt form modified prone. The shower this afternoon felt great.

CQB is supposed to teach “real world” skills. Shooting on the move, shooting fast and accurately, switching guns, changing mags – those are all important skills.

But another feature of CQB is that it test our kit in real world conditions. In the last match I discovered that my PSA AR-15would not cycle with ammo loaded with 22gr of powder. My other rifles run it just fine. Thanks to CQB, I am learning a lot more about my kit than I would otherwise know.

In the last match I found that the holster that worked well as I drilled to improve my draw did not work when I was prone. My pistol kept falling out. I would have never known that failure unless I had tried that pistol and holster combination. Today I used a holster with a release lever. No risk of pistol falling out, even if I was hanging by my heels.

Holster worked, but I discovered my Para-Ord would not feed semi-wadcutters. Never got a shot off. Finally borrowed my partners M&P9 and managed to get hits. Thanks Chuck!

Once again we had wonder volunteers to collect all the scores and run the stats computer. Thanks ladies. Your efforts and good cheer are appreciated.

The warm dry weather was nice, but the ground is dry. A side-ported muzzle brake kicks up a cloud of crud on every shot. My rifle is filthy. Good thing it is just a Norinco.

But that prone position is rock solid and an easy score. I rest my head on the ground and brace the front on the ground. Especially solid for rapid fire.

Another fun, organized, SAFE day of shooting! Had a lot of fun and ran with a great group so thanks to cmccu, mauserg and congrats to ghooosts - great shooting and a great win! Thanks to the usual crew for all their hard work and to Ganderite for always taking pictures. Dirty, burnt (a little upset for not breaking 400!) and tired but wouldn't trade a Saturday morning with the sun shining and thousands of rounds of ammo and a great group for anything.

Oh and if anyone is wondering ... if you attach a camera to your AR facing you while you shoot, you will look dumb. Why is my mouth open when I change mags? Is my flinch really that bad?

Thanks again for everything!

The day started off on a positive note when I ran over a cat on the way to the match. I knew that was a good omen. My equipment worked better than usual. I could get off all my pistol shots. Now I just have to make them count :p. I ended up in Master Class, though at the bottom. Thanks to the folks who make these matches happen.

Great day at Borden.
Fast paced match.

It was nice to be paired with a seasoned shooter. Thanks for the tips Jim! and the pics too.
It was quite impressive to see him hammer those 29 V's one after another.
Also nice to know that my M&P9 can make the hits in the right hands.

Thanks to all for making it another fun and safe match. Tim, Andrew, Dave, Pat, Fran, and Sandy.

Again, matters beyond my control prevented me from coming. But good news. The CPC passed 99.999% for my firearms policy at the convention. This is a big move forward. Have a family event in the 16th July, but I'm going to it after the shoot. See you guys then!

Thanks to all that helped out on another fine day. Nice grouping with the Norc Ganderite. Goes to show you it's the carpenter not the tool that does good work.

First CQB match for me, that was a lot of fun.

Learned some things I need to work on for next match, some gear related, some shooter related. Pistol shooting is...humbling to say the least.

The entire match is very accessible for a new CQB shooter, even without having taken the clinic. If you are on the fence about attending your first match, just do it!

Hats off to target 8, everyone was really helpful, especially my safety.
See you again July 16th!
