Probably the nicest day of the summer so far! True to the efficiency and teamwork of the whole group, we got started right on time and kept a great pace during the day with all competitors packed up, range cleared and in their cars on the way home by 1:00!

The scores have continued to improve this season with new benchmarks being set at almost every match, but most importantly a lot of new shooters are out learning and having fun in a very friendly helpful atmosphere.

Some great toys out at the range this weekend as well with an M1 Garand, and a Lee Enfield holding up WW2's end of things, and running with only a few minor glitches during the day.

We still have space at all the matches for the rest of the season, so if you are interested in getting out and trying some ORA CQB fun, get in touch with the Match Director as listed in the sticky above.

Perfect weather. It started to warm up, but Tim kept us running and gunning til we were all finished by 1:00.

Speaking of running, I would like to thank young Tyson who collected our score cards and ran them over to the stats office. That helped to save the focus of the shooters on the target that otherwise would have been tasked to run score cards.

There was a newbie shooting with us today who was enjoying the steep learning curve of when to run, jump or shoot. I would like to say "We all went through that" except that would imply we have learned the ropes, and never fire one shot when we should have fired 2, etc. Thank God Tim calls out the course of fire, all the time.

I tried another rifle and pistol today. We were all at least 70 years old... A #4 Lee Enfield and a Tokarev.

The Tokarev worked very, very well. My pistol scores might have been the best ever. 10 hits in the last match.

As for the #4, lets just say I came home with more ammo than I should have...

The scores are getting higher and higher. The winner was over 470. Wow! Well done, sir!

For most of us, getting that head shot so the body shots will count remains a hurdle to a high score. Bill's Norinco 19911 in 9mm seems to work well for him. I think he got almost all his pistol shots today.

Once again the pressures of shooting scoring, etc. limited my time to take pictures and 3 relays probably got no pictures. But those i did capture seemed to be having a great time:

Just wanted to comment on the CQB match 4.
Tim, Braydon and Dave made it a well organized and smooth event.
Everyone is improving to the point that it's becoming a tight competition.
Ganderite's pictures always show that it's a great time had by all.
Anyone else noticed Jim's welfare redneck bungee suspender?

It was another good day with my imaginary friends from the internet. ( most of us met through the internet and we are only 'friends' at the match). Diamondduck and I brought a co worker and his high school age daughter as spectators. Both shoot and the daughter is really interested now in CQB. The father is now wondering how much this is going to cost him;).
Once again I failed at pistol. Got off all rounds but practicing the day before still didn't help. Back for more practice.
What worked was I got rid of the BAD lever on my AR. Surprising how my magazines all work and the bolt locks back last shot. Go figure eh. The other thing that worked slick was having 2 mags taped together. Way faster doing mag changes but still a bigger risk if you have a glitch and have to drop the mags to clear it. You potentially loose a whole extra 5 shots.
I blew the a$$ out of my pants picking up a mag during the practice but had a pair of jeans in the van I changed into. I felt kind of unclean not being in full camo . I started to wonder if I was going down the path to total untacticool and end up dressed like Ganderite :p.
Diamondduck had a stuck round right after the first shot in the practice. It didn't look good but we got it clear by her holding the rifle pointed down range, me leaning into her shoulder with my left shoulder and reaching around with my right arm and heaving back on the charging handle. Thus the Holy Hammer of Stoppage was avoided.
We quick got rid of that batch of handloads and she swapped out with another load and that worked out. We still had another batch of handloads and if all else failed we had good old Norinco ammo:). None of this bring 150 round bit. I think we had 1000 round between us.
I can't make the August match because the young lad is getting married that day and they won't change the date:p.

You're not having the wedding after the shoot on the range:bigHug:??? Sorry I missed the day.

Another great day on the Langemark range, big thanks to Tim, Braydon and Dave for running such a smooth safe and fast match.

I had a blast trying my 1943 Springfield M1 Garand for the practice of matches 2 and 3. I did figure out that it is a lot more difficult to do a rapid mag change on a Garand than I had originally thought, and minus the stuck enblock at the end of the advance and fire I was very pleased with its performance. After the practice I switched back to my AR and as you can see from that score things went much smoother!

Its a shame you couldn't make it out JRW, your STG44 would have looked good wedged between Ganderite's Enfield and my Garand ;)

Braydon I know you said you couldn't hear the ping of the Garand from where you were standing but it comes through pretty good on the video for you.

i'm also bringing my AIA Enfield for the 200 and 300. I'm bringing a friend, who will bring his WWII Russian rifles. So should be a good cross section.
