ORA CQBm8 - AAR and Stats

In my experience with my M&P and M&P Pro, the slides will almost invariably close when the magazine is seated. It seems to be more probable if the magazine is fully loaded. One should always be aware that the slide may not close automatically.

Mine did not drop automatically, once. It caused me to stumble a second. I think it is a function of how smartly you slap the fresh mag in. I give it a good slap as I seat it, now, which is probably good procedure with all mag seatings.

The observation is being made that the scores are going up. Could be that people are getting the hang of the matches and /or are practicing at their home ranges before a match.

Always happens toward the end of the season.

As I get to enter a lot of scores over the course of the season I notice that early in the year scores are invariably lower. As people practice over the summer, and get used to the matches, scores pick up. I also notice that when the weather is inclement the scores are usually a little lower. Mind you, the cold and wet Saturday didn't seem to matter to much. Good shooting by everyone!

In the video you can see I shot a bit too fast on the second target and I only got 4 scoring hits on it, but in this video i was shooting as fast as I could, and accuracy was still good. With slow aimed fire, all 10 shots would be touching.
If you watch carefully on the video you only get 4 shots from your second magazine. Maybe that's why you only got 4 scoring hits :)

Ya, I did notice that. In fact, I noticed it the instant it locked back. you can see me look at the pistol with the "WTF" look in my eyes.

CQB demands good shooting, but it also demands that you keep your head in the game. I went to the line to shoot twice with one or two empty mags. Twice I got bailed out by a kind hearted fellow shooter who rushed back to my table to re-load for me in time to have the mags when I needed them.

One of the rifle mags had a round in backwards. That cost me 5 rifle shots. And one of the pistol mags only had 4 rounds.

For many of us, the mental errors cost as many points as the shots out of the bull.

I think the reason the scores improve over the season is we get all the the little things sorted out, like "When do I reload?" and "Is this one shot per exposure, or two?"

In my case, the season won't be long enough to get my act together, but at least I will load all my mags next time.

The M&P has an interesting feature that you don't appreciate until you have to shoot against the clock. The slide releases when you seat a fresh magazine. if you watch the video again, you will see I don't pause to hit the slide release.

I have a H&K with the same feature, but have not seen it in others. I like it. One less thing to do, especially when my hands are cold and or wet.

Personally I dont like it. I deal with not having to rack on a mag change by counting shots and changing mags with one in the pipe.

If it is an emergency magazine change, the slide will be locked back, and the automatic closing is an advantage. If it is a tactical change, there will be one up the spout. If match conditions require a certain number of shots per target, and a reload is mandated, then it would be best to load magazines accordingly.

Did I load the round backwards?
