That's to everyone that made it to CQBm8 yesterday at CFB Borden. As always thanks to the staff for running the match; Tim and Pat. Thanks for Greg for coming to spectate but getting put to work collecting score cards. Glad I only had to restart the brass sweep a couple times. The duty patroller from Rang Control was pleased with your hard work cleaning the range up. We even got to see that Dave does in fact own and can operate firearms, weird seeing him on the range, but not AROing.
See you all at match 9.

Might have been the best weather of the year. Warm, no wind and excellent light (no glare).

Bryon brought Tim's donuts for us. Mmmmm. There were some no-shows, so we got to eat their donuts. Double Mmmmm.

I have ammo for each rifle. When I packed (at 3am) I combined ammo from two boxes to make sure I would have enough. One box (as it turned out) was for a different rifle and would not cycle the one I had on the range. But my Glock worked well.

Thanks for MO and AROing, Dink and thanks all of the staff who made it happen.

It was fun to finally shoot a match. Twice I was up standing at the line looking around and then "OH F(*K! You're supposed to have a rifle this match! Where's your rifle, dummy?!" Luckily each time people were still doing targets so I had time to run get it.

*grumble* And being the new guy I had to run everywhere. Stupid TheDuck.

Thanks to everyone who helped make the match run smoothly. Had a BLAST as usual.
Last match of the season for me. Heading to Florida.
See you all in May. Have a great winter.

Ya gotta keep on the new guys case:). And you bastage you did do the opposite of me. My rifle kept messing up, yours didn't. How are you going to learn to clear stoppages?
You show up for your first match and come in second. Damn fine job.

Great pictures, had a fine day,my guns went bang no hiccups---getting my other eye cataract done --think I'll have them do a Cyborg job on it and new electric motors on my arms to hold them steady.

Thanks man. I was surprised I was anywhere other than the middle bottom when I saw the scores. I did get one stoppage with my pistol, a soft point was mixed in with my FMJs and hung up on the feed ramp. Racked it and got the last round off. Unfortunately I was a bit low and left on the headshot so no points.

Lessons learned:
I need to go through all my Remington bulk pistol ammo. Some of the boxes are FMJ, some are soft points. I didn't think to check them all... why the heck would there be different types of bullet in one 250 round box?
I need to fix the roll pin on my bolt release, it's backing out slowly. I had to push it back in twice.
I need to adjust my pistol rear sight just a bit, I was hitting consistently to the right of centre.
Don't think on the close up rifle rapids. Just aim and pull that trigger.
Once you get going the match goes FAST. It seems like only a few minutes.

Do newbies who's never taken the intro courses show up for these?

They will also pair you up with an experienced shooter as your safety guy, and he is free to coach you through the whole match. All you have to be is really familiar with your rifle controls, and mag changes for both rifle and pistol.

Cool! Thanks! It looks like a shiz load of fun and I've wanted to try it for a couple years now but didn't want to be "that" guy the regulars competitors think are holding them back. :p

I'll keep my eye open for 2017 intro days and sign up. :)

In previous years there was a clinic early in the season, highly recommended if you are just starting in CQB. It is not a hard match but the pace is quick and can be a bit confusing until you have seen it once or twice.

This year there were typically 4 relays which makes for not a lot of time to load magazines. Stripper clips or some other way of having magazines ready is something to consider.

The pace is really quick and having to reload between shooting, scoring, patching and safetying can get really stressful. I've seen lots of guys get to the line missing a mag, or having empty pistol mags etc. I used stripper clips and a speed loader my first year...This season I finally solved the stress of reloading by bringing 18 rifle mags and 6 pistol mags...load 'em up at the start and then no bombing between relays required, just restock your pouches / chest rig.

Good to know. Is that 18x 5rnd mags? Are LAR15 and/or other 10rnd pistol mags allowed?
