Thanks to everyone that made it to CQBm9 at CFB Borden this morning.I don't think we've had so many new people at any other match this season! What a great turn out, and the Tim-Fu (and his snow man sweater) kept the weather at bay. As always thanks to the staff for running the match; Tim and Chuck. We did have an issue with the brass sweep, despite our effort there was brass found on the range by the duty patroller, this reflects poorly on the ORA, the event organizers, and the individual competitors. New procedures will have to be implemented to rectify this.

I can not thank Tim enough for his dedication and hard work over the years helping to grow civilian marksmanship, CQB and Service Rifle with the ORA in particular. Additionally all the assistance he provides to our military compeditors. Tim has been a huge mentor to me as well as a valued friend, and I look forward to seeing him around the shooting sports in the future.

I also want to thank the ORA council for voting me in as the Match Director for the 2017 season. I can not fill Tim's very large combat boots, so I will be looking to the senior shooters and the ARO cadre, to help with all of the things we need to do to make a match work.

See you all in 2017. Get on the mailing list if you are not yet http://eepurl.com/bM_2RX

now get he F*** off my range

I don't know how Tim does it. Weather for the match was dry. As I left the base, it started to rain...

Each CQB is an adventure to see what the screw up will be. Today I pulled out the 4 round mag and opened fire. It had 2 rounds in it. WTF???

For a pistol I tried a Glock 31C. "C" means compensation. It does jump less and I guess it is a bit better time wise for rapid fire..

Several shooters asked about my sunburn. I have skin cancer and it is being treated via chemotherapy. The chemicals are burning off my cancerous skin. I only notice the pain when sitting around, watching TV, reading or trying to sleep. If I could spend the entire day on the range, I would not notice it.

Doctor assures me that in six weeks my face will be as smooth as Tim's bum.

With 4 relays there was not any spare time (again) for picture taking. Did get a few pictures of the Gucci kit.

I have experimented with various compensators. My rifle has a very good one that stops muzzle jump. (only cost about $11 on ebay, too). I have been very happy with it, except in modified prone the side ports kick grass and crap back all over the scope, rifle and me (my glasses). In the practice session I unscrewed it and installed a liner comp. No crap kicked back, but I found that in the rapid fire, the rifle was jumping a long way off target. So in the match I went with the regular comp. I quickly found I could not see the target very well. Here is the front lens of my scope...

Great pics! Would you be able to email a set of the pictures. I'm looking for the one of me, but I don't see it.

Thanks to all the great people for helping a newbie out today. I had a great time and will most definitely be back next year to shoot with you with you all again. Have a great holidays everyone, see you next year!!

That was a fun day indeed. The weather held off which is nice since I forgot my gloves. Apparently I need to change the way I breathe as I was constantly fogging up my optic. I was very happy with a PB and nearly 60 point improvement over my last shoot. I noticed I was getting gassed a lot from the muzzle breaks around me. I don't see the need for anything other than the stock birdcage on my Colt but that's become personal preference. I went crazy buying all kinds of stuff over the last couple of years. I've now decided to use what I have a just train wit it to become proficient. I coming for yah Vincent.

My experience with the Gremlins shows you newbees should take an AR clinic. Last week I put a D ring for single point sling to attach (I was using two zipties :)) When I put the butt stock back on I didnt notice the retaining pin and its spring had released into the trigger group. The retaining pin lodged itself in front of the hammer preventing it from striking the firing pin. Hence my issues during the match.

I discovered this when I got home, where I made the mistake of taking the rifle apart when I was dead tired. I attempted to put the pin with its spring back in place when it launched itself into the living room landing somewhere, behind a couch maybe. The search continues...

Thanks to all for another fun and safe match.

Thanks for the pictures Jim and all the best with your treatments.

And thanks to Tim for his dedication to the CQB discipline!

If it's sharp, you'll find it with your foot soon enough. Or worse, your SO will. Time to carry 2 rifles around? ;)

Thanks to Andrew, Tim and all of the AROs for the year, and to all the shooters who come out and make it an awesome community. Had a blast this match. Must work on pistola. Looking forward to next year where my schedule should be less f'd up and I can out more.

My slightly out of spec NEC lower (ZOMG what, an out of spec NEA? First time I've heard of that!) lost a bolt catch roll pin for the second time. I used a firing pin retainer, it's just the right size. Screw you NEA, you're not messing with my day.

It was strange hearing Tim blow that whistle for the last time. I'm glad I was there.

Well, we moved every bit of furniture, rugs, shoes... nothing. Then there it was in the middle of the floor!!! Everything is in place, working property now.

This was an awesome day of shooting. I had a tremendous amount of fun but the shoot sharply focused on my total lack of familiarity and skill in this discipline. I will train and practice over the winter and try again in the spring.

Thanks Jim for the invite. Good job on the photos. Thanks Tim and Andrew for putting on a great match.
