ORA's CQB Matches - Getting ready...

I think that if you aren't mounting mags on your vest.....you can probably do without the vest altogether. I actually find access my belt with my vest on is a pain. Vest just gets in the way. That may be a function of my vest though. If if fit a bit tighter I might think differently.

As far as tactical situations, vehicles etc etc.....this is a competition on a square range. Do what works for you. There are no 100% right answers.

I can totally see somebody coming from an IPSC/IDPA back ground being comfortable with belt mounting for everything. I've seen guys run that way for SR also. That way you are consistent between sports which makes a lot of sense. For me Service Conditions is more important and my primary focus so I go with what works for me for those events. If I had a larger focus on IPSC/IDPA type sports, I would do it differently. I would so run IPSC with a vest and leg rig if they would let me. Again, because that is what is comfortable for me.

Actually, if I could I would run CQB in Storm Trooper Armour.....cause I am just that big a geek :)

I shot the Provincials last year with just a belt rig and its definitely workable, what I found though was the pouches I was doing my reloads from was placed well but extra mags and other kit was too far back and awkward. Thats why I am thinking speed pouch on belt, others on vest. I also want to add a pouch for reloading the mags, enough space for a couple of boxes of ammo. If we were allowed 30rd mags I wouldn't care but with 5's I would like to be able to reload without having to run back to the rear all the time.
Trust me even if leg rigs were allowed in IPSC you wouldn't run one for very long. In short they suck, they serve a purpose...getting the pistol below and clear of armor (not an issue in IPSC)...but do so at a cost, they are awkward and slow and, unlike any other position for a holster, completely impossible to draw from while moving. They may work ok from a static position, but the minute your legs are moving prevent you from drawing without stopping to get a grip on the pistol.

Those little 20 round 7.62x39 paper wraps fit perfectly in a frag pouch. Thus I can reload while on the line.

And I'm from the '64 Pattern generation, yes, it's all about the parade square presentation. Once we got into the field, we learned that all the webbing was designed by the accountants and REMF's (rear echelon mother, you know the rest). Glad as heck I never had to deal with a 2 way range using the '64 pattern crapola.

Hey, remember that Rifledude (likely reading this post) uses ALICE web gear along with an M12 holster. He has a great time. :D

Also remember that when I'm running the match or clinic, I'll be laughing (even louder with the megaphone I just bought) at all of ya making mistakes. Hey, it's all good! :cool:

Had '64 pattern webbing during basic training, thought '82 pattern was the S**t when we got it because it was brand new...

Oh wait, outside voice. Nothing to see here.

I run a Voodoo Tactical LBE and some pouches that I good off a friend with a TAG belt and a drop leg holster, Like PapaHotel says a drop leg is not to bad for static draws, but if your moving the absolute S**ts to draw from especially under the stress that the timing in CQB puts you under. Seems to work for me for the most part.

I like a two point sling for holding my AR, VCAS FTW! Gets the carbine right out of my way on the transition and I can shoot the pistol portion with no distraction.

Listen to your Papa :) , he may or may not know a thing or two about shooting a pistol. Depending on who you are talking to.

I completely disagree with you......mostly because I am not as experienced as you and I like to stir the pot a bit :stirthepot2:. I do hear what you are saying and I've considered switching to a DOH rig.....maybe someday. For now though I'm going to stay loving my leg rig. All the very coolest mall ninja types like me are wearing them this season :ar15:

Papa has a valid point Bolivar.. last season. New for this season, inside the boot holsters!
 
Call of Duty Division. Dual wield Desert Eagles with Slight of Hand and Last Stand position instead of the modified prone..lol
 
Fwiw, while talking about holsters. I'm not happy with the holster I am using or it's location either. It's workable for me but I'll likely switch when I get some funds to something better suited for CQB. That being said I was working some draws yesterday in preparation for the clinic. With all my kit on and drawing from a transition position I was running 1.7-1.8 for a chamber empty draw. Drill was one shot to a 3" square @ 7m. I'll be using this drill @ the clinic.

Oh yah, and on that holster draw with empty chamber.... back yerself off to 10m, pound of 5 shots to that 3" patch/circle ya got.... :)

Lol, 7m was where the dry spot was on the range, I didn't have my Wellies with me.
 
I'm on my third rig in about a month and think I've finally settled on a chest rig (tried a plate carrier and tac vest)

A very nice setup. Now we are ready to have some fun at CQB matches/ clinics! :D Got enough mags? 2 pistol and 5 rifle will do it!
