Ordanance wants the Navy to buy the M1's and not reconditioned M1903's so they can spread the cost of the rifles to more rifles being bought by the Navy and Army instead of just the Army alone if I understoud the file right. :)

Dimitri,
Corret Sir. Back then Ordnance had to sell the rifles to other units. getting the funding in 1933 was hard. At that point in time only the USN had funds.
Thanks again

I wonder why the USN had more funds to play with, probably because of the "get out of the depression so lets build ships" funding they were getting. :)

Because it was a open seceret that FDR favoured the Navy.

Gentlemen,
Great WORK. This has been what I have been trying to do. Get you guys to talk about the posts and ask question. Here's the deal on USN Funds. "getting out of the depression so lets build ships" Bingo The USN was given funds for 32 Major War Ships. So they needed small arms. That was the deal
Thanks again guys

Then, as now, American power and foreign policy was projected and delivered from the mouths of the guns of the Navy. The difference is that today, the Aircraft carrier is the primary foreign policy tool, while in 1941 it was still the soon to be obsoleted Battleship.

Who knows if the new rail guns come online in the Navy as a regular item we might see 16" rail guns fitted on the mothballed (USS Iowa and USS Wisconsin) Battleships since they already are upgraded for Tomahawk cruise missle lanching, Harpoon Ship to Ship and Phalanx weapon systems when they went into the First Gulf War, then the range will go from 25 miles to 250+ miles (Navy plans to be able to upgrade smaller guns with a 15 mile range currently to 250 miles using these new guns).
