Well today I ordered the Dominion Arms DA556 Lightweight C8 Rifle from Canada Ammo. This is my first dive into the AR pool and I'm a newbie to these. I mean the only thing I know about these rifles is that they kill zombies on TV and in movies, and they look cool doing it.

I went with the DA556 for a number of reasons. First, I don't compete in any rifle competitions or anything. Second, I don't know how much I will actually shoot it. Third, this is going to be used strictly for fun plinking, so I don't need sub MOA accuracy. And fourth, I'm broke. Lol.

So to make a long story short, I did not want to spend any more than the $599 right now. Depending on a range of factors I may spend more on a higher quality rifle later.

I'm just curious if you all out there have any info that you feel an AR newbie needs to know about this rifle or AR's in general? Tips, tricks, and general helpful info will be greatly appreciated.

One special request though, if you are just going to say that I wasted my money on a piece of Chinese crap, don't bother replying. I already know that I have not purchased a rifle that will compare to a Colt, Bushmaster, Barret, etc.

Thanks all, and happy new year to you.

Welcome to the club, I just ordered the same rifle a couple months ago and knew absolutely nothing about the platform. I ended up polishing the trigger sear, mine was terrible: http://imgur.com/RtDEMmD Other than that its been a great rifle. You should probably google how to sight it in properly with the supplied irons. Mine was pretty close right out of the box.

I just got one of these DA556's. While the fit and finish isn't the same quality my Diemaco SA15.7 is, I am very pleased with it overall. I haven't shot mine yet though.
These were on sale two weeks ago for $499 at Canada Ammo.

I had a number of Norinco M4'geries and I am almost embarrassed to admit that they shot almost as good as any of the Colt AR15's that I have owned. I am sure that your Dominion Arms M4/AR15 will put a smile on your face each time you take it to the range.

Strip and clean the cosmoline. Plus helps if something happens. You know how to take it apart

This is Cosmoline.

I don't think his DA will come wearing this.

I got a DA556 early this year for reasons nearly identical to yours, except that I'm not broke...just cheap.

The one thing you must know for sure is how to strip and clean the rifle before shooting it. My rifle came with a couple of greasy wads of cloth inside the action and bolt carrier...presumably they are there to protect the gun's innards during shipping and storage. These must be removed as they'll prevent the rifle from firing. Otherwise, just thoroughly clean off the storage oil, take it to the range, and let 'er rip.

These are pretty decent rifles, esp. at the price. If all you want is a plinker to get familiar with the AR platform, they are the ideal thing. Have fun!

i didn't know about the tissue behind the bolt carrier my first time out..... Rifle ran 160rnds flawlessly still..

Why not run it in competitions? They're fun! I run my da556 in competitions and it's fun beating some of the guys who are running $2k-$3k platforms. I treat mine like an AR is meant to be: rough with lots of rounds down the pipe. She just keeps begging for more.

If you're looking for an aftermarket stock, remember that the DA556 is a "commercial" buffer tube size.
Enjoy your rifle and shoot it lots!

Mags, ammo (more than you think you'll ever use) do NOT polish the trigger (all AR's have surface hardened trigger parts, polishing them just wears down the hardness and causes embarrassing/potentially dangerous failures). Buy more ammo (you only think you're broke now - AR's eat ammo like fat kids eat smarties). Shoot it with the irons first, soon enough you'll want an optic. Get a Vickers sling - don't try to use the one that comes with it, that's just crazy. Lastly, buy ammo - there's nothing worse than putting your last round down range, you end up going through your gear, shooting bag, car, pockets etc., looking for more ammo like some sort of debilitated junkie jonesing for a fix. Very sad.
